I was thinking about getting a few miles in this summer, but when I started looking at my calendar... I realized just how much work I was getting done on this project. I love it when it works out that way! I am going to have to take a good look at the calendar and plan for the "when" of my hike. The closest I can pinpoint at this moment is sometime between mid-July and mid-Sept. Looking at the possibility of taking a month off. Big grins at that realization!!! I will have a better idea of the when in the next couple of days...

I remember the first time I walked into the old Tiger Stadium. You could feel this is one of the places baseball cut it's teeth. Homeruns bounced off the upper deck. If you had front row seats in the upper deck you felt like you were on the field. You could actually "feel" baseballs history.

I remember the first time I walked into the old Tiger Stadium. You could feel this is one of the places baseball cut it's teeth. Homeruns bounced off the upper deck. If you had front row seats in the upper deck you felt like you were on the field. You could actually "feel" baseballs history.

That is the one drawback to me hiking the AT. I was in the process of trying to take my 2 youngest sons to games at all 30 ballparks, and that has kinda got put on hold. Perhaps next summer I can compromise and try to get a few road trips in with them. Of course up until this year they were always playing into mid-July to early August, so I will not take all of the blame.

Good one Astro. I do appreciate that one. I learned a long time ago that the Big "O" deserves a lot of respect like the ocean. All it takes is one good storm. It'll make a believer out of you. I've been caught in little ones that will scare you to death and one time - Aug 1980 - friends of mine and I were to go fishing. Something came up that I didn't go. They hooked into bass that were biting like mosquitos just as a storm was moving it. It was getting closer and closer, they're bringing in bass one after another. They were keeping and eye on it and saying just one more, just one more. Before you know it the storm was right on top of them. They were trying to get to shore in 7ft. "seas". The lake is like blowing across a bowl of soup. No current or undertow but can really swell up. They flip the 17½ Ranger boat. Hours go by. Now it's getting dark. No help in sight. They can see the lights on the pump station but no chance of getting there. One of them tries the trolling motor and it spins. They unbolt the quick release and mount the motor upside down, troll over to the pump house and get out on it and wait it out until morning when they get picked up. That morning the lake was like glass. They tell me the sunrise was breathtaking. Lake Okeechobee has many different faces. That was one time I'm glad I didn't witness the different purples.

ATM, did happen to be around South Florida in the late 70s? There was a singer from around Palm Beach that wrote a lot of his own material and was popular locally, but I do not believe he ever made it nationally. I remember he had one song based upon the old 7-11 jingle, "if it is not at the house, it is just around the corner". I know it is a shot in the dark, but do you know who I am talking about? i had a great day today. did a 14 mile loop of the long path and the a t in harriman state park. picked up 3 nobos at the rte17 road crossing.they needed a lift to walmart in harriman,ny. drove them there, then headed back to the trailhead, did the lemon squeezer for the umpteenth time.hi70s breezy, blue skies with little cumulus cloud puffs.headed up the long path, had lunch at stockridge shelter, then headed down a woods road to the at and headed south. met about a dozen nobos and just as i was getting back to my car at elk pen,i ran into the same 3 kids i had picked up in the am.one of them had an aunt who took them out to lunch, then bought them beer, so their ambition had died, they had set up their hammocks, and were staying there for the night. hung out with them swapping stories, they had all gotten norovirus down south.i never asked their names, but two others i met were tracker and z-man.

interesting...I got a 39 which says I use the net a bit to much but am master of my domain...I thought for so I was hopeless shrew, turns out I'm just a loser...I can live with dat
After you've answered all the questions, add the numbers you selected for each response to obtain a final score. The higher your score, the greater your level of addiction and the problems your Internet usage causes. Here's a general scale to help measure your score:
20 - 49 points: You are an average on-line user. You may surf the Web a bit too long at times, but you have control over your usage.
50 -79 points: You are experiencing occasional or frequent problems because of the Internet. You should consider their full impact on your life.
80 - 100 points: Your Internet usage is causing significant problems in your life. You should evaluate the impact of the Internet on your life and address the problems directly caused by your Internet usage.
After you have identified the category that fits your total score, look back at those questions for which your scored a 4 or 5. Did you realize this was a significant problem for you? For example, if you answered 4 (often) to Question #2 regarding your neglect of household chores, were you aware of just how often your dirty laundry piles up or how empty the refrigerator gets?
Say you answered 5 (always) to Question #14 about lost sleep due to late-night log-ins. Have you ever stopped to think about how hard it has become to drag yourself out of bed every morning? Do you feel exhausted at work? Has this pattern begun to take its toll on your body and your overall health?

Congratulations, your score is: 39

So Mrs.Socks wanted to take the test under her supervision...I complied...and got a 49...and she hates it, hehehe

Congratulations, your score is: 49

i had a great day today. did a 14 mile loop of the long path and the a t in harriman state park. picked up 3 nobos at the rte17 road crossing.they needed a lift to walmart in harriman,ny. drove them there, then headed back to the trailhead, did the lemon squeezer for the umpteenth time.hi70s breezy, blue skies with little cumulus cloud puffs.headed up the long path, had lunch at stockridge shelter, then headed down a woods road to the at and headed south. met about a dozen nobos and just as i was getting back to my car at elk pen,i ran into the same 3 kids i had picked up in the am.one of them had an aunt who took them out to lunch, then bought them beer, so their ambition had died, they had set up their hammocks, and were staying there for the night. hung out with them swapping stories, they had all gotten norovirus down south.i never asked their names, but two others i met were tracker and z-man.
really nice day

Happy for you and them! Thanks for sharing the good stuff. :sun

I read and enjoyed your latest journal entry. Apparently some people don't understand the purpose of going on a journey is to experience all that you can along the way; I'm glad that you have been able to do more with your time in the States than merely taking a tour of a 2000 mile long three foot wide trail.

If I ever do a thru hike, I plan on skipping a small section just to piss off the purists.

interesting...I got a 39 which says I use the net a bit to much but am master of my domain...I thought for so long I was hopeless shrew, turns out I'm just a loser...I can live with dat

RS, turns out we have even more in common than I thought. I got a 39 also. :)

Congratulations, your score is: 39And we both forget to post entire words, hehehe

So I guess that means that I got the same score as the RS alter ego, but the real RS was 10 points higher.

What got me most riled up is that there were three of us on that paddle keeping a journal.
The comment (with universally offensive in cybet space CAPITALS) was posted only on the one journal kept by a female.
Aquablazing is increasingly popular - we know of at least 15 others doing it this week.
The ATC has clearly had a policy of "don't want to know" in the past.
I was not misled by a canoeing firm but the large number of journals opening stating they were doing it.
As a relatively "high profile" hiker due to my involvement in the cafe, I will do the missing miles or not claim accreditation. To anyone else considering aquablazing I say DO IT! But don't say much about it or the ayatollahs of the white blaze will hound you.
HYOH is a statement that leaves a very sour taste in my mouth because nearly everyone who makes the statement has in their comments immediately preceding that mantra made it clear that they think you should be hiking it their way. HB's quote of "you're doing it all wrong" is actually a parody on this very issue. I don't think HB is in the group I am annoyed at by the way. People may read that into my comments but I definitely view HB as someone who correctly understands HYOH (even though he is more a purist than I am).
