Well, the paddle is nothing... I would think you would be tired of dragging the canoe by now. :D

It's a real time saver on the downhills though.

Funny you say that. A while back my girlfriend and I were riding through one of the hay fields at the horse barn. We looked over to the steeply sloping horse field next to where we were and there was an aluminum canoe at the bottom of it. We mentioned it to the barn owner when we got back and he told us that during the winter a few of the neighbors got drunk and tried to use the canoe to go sledding, when they crashed the canoe got so mangled that they just left it there!

Boy did I get backed up there a bit! Let's see. Oz is in Duncannon gorging himself in mint chocolate chip and HikerMom is back yay. WOO lit a fire with a Heine can (not to be confused with a Hiney can). And some nameless, faceless, two bit, mouse eating, snot sucking, up chucking piece of low life scum posted something nasty in Violet's TJ. Wow. And that's just two days. Boy oh boy.

I'm up at Hershey Park camping out with the scouts and not (as you can see)...sleeping much. :p. saw a scout ride his first coaster. Priceless. Have a great weekend guys.

That's not a bad thing in the long run. They have a long and proud history of buying too much ammo and then selling it back to the public for cheap as "surplus" Until I recently ran out, I was still feeding 1960's manufacture .30-06 through my garand.

Well, that's what I've been doing since shortly after I returned home after having to get off the trail in Franklin. But my remaining bs'ing time is short as I WILL BE RETURNING TO THE TRAIL SHORTLY!!!!!!! I am so excited! A friend is going to visit her daughter and grandchildren in Sandy Hook, CT and she has agreed to let me ride along as long as she doesn't have to go out of her way to drop me off on the AT. So, I was looking at maps and the Companion and I notice that the AT crosses Interstate 84 (which is what we will be taking from Penn into NY) at 1,431.1 from Springer which is the Stormville Mtn Rd I-84 overpass. So, I appeal to all you Yanks that know this area. Is there someplace that we can pull over so I can get up onto the overpass? If not, what would you recommend as the best way for me to access the AT somewhere in this vicinity that won't take too much time off I-84?

Trillium,
Hi, while I am definitely am not a Yankee, and have not been to that part of the trail yet, I just wanted to say awesome that this going to work out for you and you get to hike the AT some more this summer. :)

Well...... if you are willing to take advice from someone who lives on the opposite side of the planet..... You could exit I-84 onto the Taconic State Parkway (southbound) and then take the first exit (after about 2 miles) onto Miller Hill Rd. That is the AT right there at the underpass. (or at least it was when I was there !) Your friend could just get straight back on the Parkway & go back the 2 miles to I-84

I have seen a similar sight and wondered what the heck a canoe was doing in the trees, on a mountain. Then, I realized others must have tried sledding in it. I only got there in my own head because my friends and I used to have kayak races down the ski hill after it went dark for the night. You have more control with the kayak. :D

Interesting Rasty...

Byron's friend hiked Mt. Whitney a year ago and then decided to hike Katahdin, Memorial Day, this year. He hiked up a non-AT trail (maybe some backside trail) and hiked down on the AT. He said Katahdin was harder to hike than Mt. Whitney. At one point while hiking down the AT he had to stop & really try to figure out how he was going to continue. While he was thinking about it some hikers came up and showed him the exact place to put his foot etc... he said is was really tough. He said the trail up was really really tough too.

Elf-I can see you wanting to save it for the end of your hike... what a way to finish!! :) Classic!

That is what I fist thought. Like basketball, there are 9 people on the floor without the ball and what they doing is very important. Setting screens, positioning for rebounds, moving without the ball, getting set to take charges, positioning yourself on defense to keep the offensive player from getting where they are comfortable, etc.. have a lot more to do with playing the game right and winning than watching the guy with the ball in his hands on TV would lead you to believe.

Had my Keens on today did a five - Rugby almost passed out. its 86 and muggy. Just got back and stubbed my Bunion on a small stump. Yowwww! Now I know Vibram 5 fingers sucks...

Only 86, around here that would have meant a cold front was moving through.

Windows Millennium Edition was the primary reason that I bought a Mac. Windows Vista is the reason I bought a second Mac. ;)

Can not ever see myself ever buying an Apple product, but still willing to admit the missteps for Microsoft.

RS, gotta take care of those feet. Just like a race car with the best gear and fuel, you are not going anywhere without good tires.

Wait no wait ,,,, the learning curve on Windows 8 - You might be a Mac user again....

My youngest son and father both got new computers with Windows 8 around Christmas. Needless to say my son adjusted to it faster than his grandfather.

Right you are, kinda glad I stopped walking when I did, or it could have gotten real ugly. I did what all the current literature suggests..drain(small hole), cover and treat as open wound, kick back and chill for a week, at least that's what I told the wife, hehe
