Any ideas.

my name has always been a problem. i've been spelling it and pronouncing it as long as i can remember.

i don't like "Illa", but "Belle" is ok.
it's not the number of syllables, it's the 9 letters.
you could shorten it by eliminating the unnecessary ones: ilabel, which looks weird, like "I label".

i still don't have a trail name. :(

of course your guidebook expertise trumps my real life experience.presi traverse is possible in a day too. just not much fun and a very long day.theres a pic or 2 of the howker ridge trail in my gallery.

Right, since I've never hiked in the Presidential Range and don't know how to read a map or Google Earth, and extrapolation and induction are meaningless - all knowledge and insight must be obtained solely from physical contact with a given stretch of land.

You know Rasty's a lot fitter and more skilled than the average hiker here, Andy, and his idea of "fun" won't jibe up with yours or mine. What part of "he hiked up Tuckerman Ravine, off trail, with snow and ice in April" did you miss? Was that in a guidebook?

Um, none of it. I enjoyed reading about your and his and others' hikes. Maybe you missed that.

ive hiked those trails, driver. its like pushing through the mahoosucs in 3 days. it can be done, but its a whole lot more fun if you dont have to push and do it in 4. what youve been suggesting is a very long hard day.

You also evidently missed, in my first post responding to Rasty's query, that these hikes would be "stern tests." Does that mean anything to you? The fact that you've hiked those hikes, and I have not, does not entitle you to ridicule my suggestions, which are more than reasonable, given the target audience. It's just mindlessly reactionary and pointless on your part. Every time I make a suggestion or observation about a hike you've done and that I've only read about to date, having hiked something nearby, does not call for you to weigh in about that as if lording it over me and about how there's no way anything I say about the subject can have value and only your insight merits consideration. It's bullying, and I won't tolerate it.

I think people are aware - certainly Rasty is - that I've been hiking frequently for only a few years and have done a dozen hikes in the Whites and that you have a ton of hiking experience, in the Whites and elsewhere. We don't need to be beaten upside the head with that every time I make a suggestion or comment. Your insistence on harping on it is remarkable, to put it kindly.

Rasty's a smart and capable guy, he can figure out what hike will work for him, will be fun for him. He doesn't need to be dictacted to. I agree with you that the forecasts are a concern, almost mentioned it myself, but I figured he can and will check that for himself.

n and west of madison and adams gets the main thrust of t storm activity in july, so its usually prudent to plan on being below treeline by 3pm. this would be difficult with the trails youve mentioned.its not bullying. i speak from experience and you do not.not every day hike necessarily needs to be a survival test. that you brought up those trails triggered a suggestion for some loops ideas using the link trail where he wouldnt have to worry about beating the clock and making miles over very tricky terrain.rasty's as capable as i am.one of my favorite hikes was up the amphibranch to kings ravine and then up the grat gully to thunderstorm junction, then over to madison. i started from appalachia at 8am, got to madison hut around 3.minimally 4 hrs back to appalachia, regardless of the route. thats a long day.id rather overnight.but you're right. rasty can make his own decisions. hes pracrically a grown up

I don't make my suggestions based "just on what I read." I have, as you well know, hiked paths near those - do you understand the meaning of "induction" and "extrapolation," or did Pepe erase those from your hard drive? My suggestions, couched as stern tests, as you tacitly admit, were well within reason, given the target audience, and your response was pointlessly mean and uncalled for. It's a pattern with you, and I won't tolerate such treatment, certainly not when it's repeated.

You enjoy making jibes about lawyers when you and I disagree, should I gratuitously swipe at car salesmen?

I'm listening.
Well, actually I'm eating my breakfast, but go ahead and tell.

I'll try and make it short and sweet. Milk used to be and still is and will be again the last thing I drink before getting on the trail and the first thing I get when I get off. We were hiking a lot in our early marriage in and around the Georgia section of the AT. I'd say to my wife, I gotta get a milk before we go cause I ain't gonna get any till we get back. We'd get back and it would be the first I'd get. One time we were coming in and I was going on and on ( I guess) about how I'm gonna get a milk as soon as we get to town. My wife says "will you shut up about your damn milk. You ain't nothing but a big milk baby. In fact that's what I'm gonna call you. Milk baby. Milk baby, milk baby, milk baby". And that's what it was for the longest time. Then it eventually evolved into milkman.

king ravine is not a very easy day hike, neither is castle ravine although they are both awesome trails.great gully trail is cool too with a couple hairy scrambles. valley way happens to be pretty nice, views are great but so is the forest but i really love the amphibranch trail as an alternative to valley way. anyway those ravine trails are best done as an overnight to either madison hut or one of the rmc camps like the perch or crag camp. they are all difficult trails and steep.
there are some nice loops you can do out of appalachia. some nice falls, and a bit less travelled than franconia and the presis

True for most hikers, but I factored in that it's Rasty, who went up Tuck's, off trail, with spring snow and ice. I reckon he could get up any of those and down an easier route such as Airline or Howker Ridge, easier being a relative term, in a day without a problem.

Rasty: King Ravine features a snow cave which, from what I read, is like the snow deep in the boulders you get in Mahoosuc Notch. Not, from what I hear, a hiking hazard, just something cool to see in early July. It is a notoriously difficult route, which seems to be right down your alley. Lots of scrambling moves and steep pitches.

That could be fun.

He he he...

I heard this story on the radio, then decided to find an article about it, first google hit was snopes:

:banana:banana:banana
Claim: A food writer lapsed into a butter-induced coma after consuming 413 Red Lobster biscuits.

Status: FALSE

Example: [The Mirror, June 2013]

A food writer trying to beat a restaurant’s customer record of scoffing hundreds of butter-rich cakes failed — and slipped into a COMA.

He was rushed to hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas, after consuming 413 Cheddar Bay Biscuits from the Red Lobster restaurant.

Doctors confirm that he slipped into a coma shortly after being admitted into the emergency room.

[Rest of article here.]

Origins: This item about food writer Kevin Shalin, who supposedly slipped into a coma after consuming 413 Cheddar Bay Biscuits from Red Lobster, was picked up and run as straight news by a number of news sites in June 2013, including the UK's Daily Star and Daily Mirror, and Canada's Globe and Mail.

Apparently none of those news outlets found the tale of a man who reportedly ate 413 biscuits and the "equivalent of 51.5 sticks of butter"

all in one sitting, then lapsed into a coma caused by "butter from the biscuits blocking signals coming from [his] brain" until doctors "drained approximately 2 gallons of butter" from his system, questionable enough to do anything but take it at face value and reprint it as true.

A minimal amount of checking would have revealed the source of this story to be a 22 June 2013 article ("Local Man in Coma After Eating 413 Red Lobster Biscuits") published by Rock City Times, a satirical web site that bills itself as "Arkansas 2nd most unreliable news source" and carries a disclaimer on its opening page stating that "The content on here is presented as fictional news with an intent for humor."

The Globe and Mail, at least, published a correction which included comments from the spoof article's author:
"I'm just kind of surprised," Greg Henderson, the author of the Rock City Times article, said.

"I think people are extremely gullible. It's kind of sad actually that that many people thought it was a real story."

"I like to throw some underlying message behind just about everything I write," he said.

"Obviously Americans are overeaters and I think that's always just kind of the big joke," he said, "and so I kind of wanted to say, 'Well how can I take that aspect of it to the extreme?'"

The Rock City Times then satirized the issue with a follow-up article entitled "British Tabloid The Daily Mirror Outsources Writing to Arkansas Satire News Sites":
The British tabloid The Daily Mirror announced this weekend that they will begin outsourcing the bulk of their content writing to satire news sites based out of Arkansas. The move comes as the tabloid faces declining viewership and poor journalism standards from existing staff.

The Daily Mirror expects to complete the full transition to the new writers by the end of the month. They did acknowledge that some of the stories may seem far fetched, like a man eating 413 Red Lobster biscuits, but they promise as long as the stories seem even remotely plausible they will publish the stories.

my name has always been a problem. i've been spelling it and pronouncing it as long as i can remember.

i don't like "Illa", but "Belle" is ok.
it's not the number of syllables, it's the 9 letters.
you could shorten it by eliminating the unnecessary ones: ilabel, which looks weird, like "I label".

of course your guidebook expertise trumps my real life experience.presi traverse is possible in a day too. just not much fun and a very long day.theres a pic or 2 of the howker ridge trail in my gallery.

Was that in a guidebook?

n and west of madison and adams gets the main thrust of t storm activity in july, so its usually prudent to plan on being below treeline by 3pm. this would be difficult with the trails youve mentioned.its not bullying. i speak from experience and you do not.not every day hike necessarily needs to be a survival test. that you brought up those trails triggered a suggestion for some loops ideas using the link trail where he wouldnt have to worry about beating the clock and making miles over very tricky terrain.rasty's as capable as i am.one of my favorite hikes was up the amphibranch to kings ravine and then up the grat gully to thunderstorm junction, then over to madison. i started from appalachia at 8am, got to madison hut around 3.minimally 4 hrs back to appalachia, regardless of the route. thats a long day.id rather overnight.but you're right. rasty can make his own decisions. hes pracrically a grown up

I'll get it started...

A Brooklyn lawyer, a used car salesman and a banker were gathered by a coffin containing the body of an old friend. In his grief, one of the three said, "In my family, we have a custom of giving the dead some money, so they?ll have something to spend over there."They all agreed that this was appropriate. The banker dropped a hundred dollar bill into the casket, and the car salesman did the same. The lawyer took out the bills and wrote a check for $300.

The only consolation for not going hiking tomorrow is that you and Driver fought about it all day. On a serious note it looks like it will start raining at 6 am and rain all day with lightning off and on all day.

i would suggest, based on my secondhand knowledge, you should bring rain gear. some prefer an umbrella

30 kilos is 66 pounds. You should refill their box with Fox News books (Hannity and O'Reilly). Kevin would love that.

Its all good ... then someone has an "ISSUE" Because they were left out. Didn't have enough ice cream..

If you do not understand the "thought process here" as a European I was introduced to alcohol in moderation at 15 in England as a young adult getting drunk is a taboo. Sitting at a bar is an honor to sit and discuss the day with other older adults. Today there is a law against the process, that is still the best way to keep young adults in check.

Since then in the state of PA there is the relative new law of Pizza Hut Law.
