I had planned a camping trip hiker get together at Rocky Bald, Nantahalas for march 26 -29, 2006. I had emergency ACL knee surgery the week before and it began to snow (no snew in NC) for a coupla days and it didn't get warmer than 20 the whole time. I wasn't bothered by the knee and made 3 or more trips up from Tellico Gap with a bunch of stuff. My knee didn't bother me at all and felt quite good until I hiked GA/NC that summer. and it was quite sore. The low low temps kept the knee numb.

You can do it ATM.

I've seen them that big in Homestead, FL. My friend wouldn't get them unless they were 10 footers. Skins would completely cover a 4'x8' sheet of plywood with some on the opposite side. Just monsters I tell ya.I seriously didn't know that got that big.

Yes! All three together at the same sitting. Yummy!

We used to add frog legs to that list for the traditional FL Christmas Dinner. Another friend of mine was licensed to ship all 4 meats nationally. He shipped as far as California. They used to call him the "nut in the swamp". Come to think of it, that's what they used to call us. But he had a bigger reputation. You could go to his house and buy meat. He was State inspected. Super, super nice guy. You could bring the kids and they could hold baby raccoons while you shot the breeze.

Same wishes as Coach - safe and fun hike to you all, Farmer. I recommend the side trip to Killington's summit if a clear day. The views up there are awesome - mostly 180 degrees SSW to NNE. Also, while up there, worth it to poke around over to the "civilized side" of the summit, where there are great views near the K-1 gondola.

Have fun,Glastenbury Mtn. and Little rock Pond are 2 of my favorite spots in Vt........ Pics, they are worth a thousand words....we love them take many:D

I hope you have a great hike! Take plenty of pics. I'm looking forward to seeing them.

Thanks all, for the well wishes. Can't wait. Will definitely check out the summit on Killington if time allows. Have a big day that day but hoping I can get the kids on the trail at sunrise. Yeah, right. My oldest is becoming a teenager and quickly conforming to the late riser syndrome.

went up to harriman state park today.met starfail, guru and garden girl at elk pen, brought them bottles of gatorade, threw their packs in my trunk, slackpacked them a whopping 6 miles to lake tiorati. while they were hiking i went back to the deli, got a bunch of subs and sodas and drove back to the lake to meet them for lunch. they had gotten separated from twigs and shady the day before so we hung out and waited for them to make up the 6 mile difference.after a dip in the lake to cool off, they decided their day was done(2pm) so we just hung around with pepe, swapping stories . it was really good to see them again, i had hiked with them off and on from the smokies to damascus.left them around 6pm. theyre going to stay at a friends in brooklyn, taking the bus into the city, celebrating starfails bday tomorrow, then getting back on trail sunday.im off sunday so i might decide to do a little more trail magic for them.
its been a good day.

Great that you got to help out, HB. Doing a shuttle for a fellow Whiteblazer today. He is hiking from Pearisburg to Buena Vista. I love it when I am able help out a fellow hiker. I'd like to make it perfectly clear that I don't approve of trail magic unless I'm the one either giving or receiving it

Love that Rhodes piano sound. I found Light As a Feather the other day. Sealed! Inconceivable!

I used to have a Fender Rhodes 88 that I played in several bands (sax and keyboards). Can't believe I used to haul that thing around by myself, up and down stairs, too. No wonder my back hurts so much these days.

A couple hours later, my husband comes through the door carrying rock salt, cow milk, half-n-half, whipping cream, one watermelon, two more cantaloupe, and several more things. Very little of it will fit in the refrigerator.
