Just leave out the chicken ankles and I'll deal with it.

I still can't believe you messed up your milestone posting talking about chicken feet.

Now that I think about it, it was a great 2000th post. Chicken ankles are really what it's all about anyway. Gotta eat the older chickens first before they start pecking at the younger chickens.

Sort of like the Inuit setting old people adrift on a small iceberg heading south!

A disgusting grape grown in the South that some ding-dongs think they should make wine out of it! Truely horrific! Like adding citrus to grape jelly. Eating the fresh grapes isn't any better with the thick chewy skin and grape snot consistency inside.

You dare to impugn the noble White Grape!
"North Carolina is the home of our nation's first cultivated grape. The earliest written account of the "White Grape," as it was called by our colonists, occurs in Giovanni de Verrazzano's logbook. Verrazzano, the Florentine navigator, who explored the Cape Fear River Valley for France in 1524, wrote that he saw "...Many vines growing naturally there. Grapes of such greatness, yet wild, as France, Spain, nor Italy hath no greater."

Sir Walter Raleigh's explorers, captains Phillip Amadas and Arthur Barlowe wrote in 1584, that the coast of North Carolina was "...so full of grapes as the very beating and surge of the sea overflowed them...in all the world, the like abundance is not to be found."
http://www.nccommerce.com/wine/growing-grapes/n.c.-grape-varieties/muscadine-scuppernong-grape-growing/history

Somewhere on Roanoke Island is the fabled Mother Vine, the original vine from which all modern vines are thought to be descended. It's supposed to be over 400 years old, probably living when the Lost Colony rolled into town. Back in the day, many a colonist probably kicked back on their front porch with a good old glass of muscadine/scuppernong while they complained to each other about mean King George. Of course, this was before they discovered internet forums and proceeded on to analyze each other's horseback skills.

Just because it's old and traditional doesn't make it good! Those early explorers were hardcore alcoholics and would drink hand sanitizer if they had it.

The 6 nobel grapes of the world - Sauvignon blanc, riesling, chardonnay, merlot, cabernet sauvignon and Pinot noir. Add the other great grapes Zinfandel (Primitivo for you Italians), Sirah and it's variants, Tempranillo, Sangiovese, etc, all share something. They are smaller and actually taste good.

Lokkie Spiders are easy.... starve them out.... if its the hunting kind (wander and dont make webs) use a lot of glue boards. They start with a peanuty smell and they get a few small insects on them.... then the spiders want to find out why they are there. Easy....

The other kind - that are all making webs? vacuum first with all the exstentions and a brush along the ceilings and basement.... then go back and hit it with Pyrethrum (Chrysanthemum oil ) or Essentria IC3 Spray.... available on the web (the good stuff is $$$) Don't buy a gallon - I only use an ounce or two per gallon of water... get premixed.

FYI Deanna and I are working on our Pool Game and shoot every Wednesday.

Boo, hiss! I love muscadines! Spent a lot of time each September with my dad and sister climbing trees to harvest those beautiful, thick-skinned purple grapes. Make great jellies and preserves and, if you know what you're doing, as my dad does, a pretty tasty wine.

Even Childress winery in the Yadkin valley realized that cabernet franc, syrah and blueberries make better wine than Muscadine. The good grapes in the muscat family are muscadet and muscat which make delicious sweet wines. :p

I love poking fun at muscadine!

I just spent the last hour tasting (At work) Spanish wines for an upcoming dinner. A beautiful Albarino, a great Verdejo, a tempranillo, a Carchelo, a Mazuelo/Syrah/Grenache and finished with a Reserve Madeira. Also rejected a Verdejo, a OK rioja and a Amontillado Sherry. Slickrock Trail - around Looking Glass Rock - finished the day with a shower under the waterfalls and a beer if that tells you how warm it was - high 70s for sure - water still cold

If you got any nice photos (of the trail, not the shower:eek:) put them up in your gallery!
I thought all the fall color would be gone by now, but a friend sent me a photo of the Cherohala Skyway and there was still plenty.

Someone needs to tell Gizzy Bear not to hijack the cake ladies thread with defense of a mediocre grape. Even Childress winery in the Yadkin valley realized that cabernet franc, syrah and blueberries make better wine than Muscadine. The good grapes in the muscat family are muscadet and muscat which make delicious sweet wines. :p

I love poking fun at muscadine!

I baked a cake a few years ago for a party with some paddling friends. A bunch of them had gone out earlier that summer on the French Broad River near Hot Springs in an old borrowed raft. We didn't get there till later. Anyway, they flipped the raft and all of them swam at Frank Bell's rapid which is just outside the town.
It's nothing fancy like the other ones posted lately! white cake mix, a gallon of blue food color, and a bucket of cake frosting. I'm hiding it here on this thread :) Don't show it to your brother the pastry chef or Rachel
