Just try again follow the instructions on the dancing sheep

It works because it's small 630k!
It is different.
The photos I normally try and post from my computer are resied to less than 100Kb or so.
Well within the size limits of the ones i past in from the web.

Once you get familiar with the Photobucket, you can share pics - across several blogs and webservers. I use the same pics, and in the office I use a different service all together, so nobody gets to see the rats....from Pest Control

That was a magical day by the way.
Not 2008 like I said before - it was 2010 (got confzzled for a minute).
17th October - my wedding anniversary.
Normally a short walk to the hut (oldest stockmans hut in the Australian Alps) from the road.
Because road was still closed from winter damage, was a 17km (11mile) walk.
Snow season was over but we had two days of spring snow before we did the walk.
No one had been there for the two days. Only footprints were ours.

Is that Craig's Hut in the Snowies?
Wallaces Hut.
It's on the Alps Track but not to be stayed in except for emergencies.
I's a "Heritage" site.
Lots of huts in the Alps, most can be stayed in.

just got home from christmas in ct at my brothers house in wethersfield. a light dusting of snow on the trees and grass gave the day the proper mood. good food, family mom and dad, sis, brothers niece and nephews, so thankful my family is intact after the events of the past few weeks.
ive had a great year overall, patched things up with my younger daughter, being the most important, but also became a grandpa, fell in love with maine, cant wait to go back, and made so many new friends, like fidjit and dot com, mandela and terranauta, and coach lou!!after hiking with lou for an hour it already seemed like we knew each other forever.
i am so looking forward to meeting the rest of you .yoou ve really become part of my extended family.put up with my tirades, and extended your hand to me when you thought it would help.
maine is going to be a blast this summer.
i think we're all going to be friends for a very long time.

oh yeah, i got a bunch of gift cards for rei and ems.

My wife and daughter both got the flu on Friday - - they recouped enough to enjoy the day and seeing what Santa brought but all in all it was a pretty quiet holiday - - -I got in a little mid-day run in the cool fog and got a bit of reading done - I'm reading The Old Ace in the Hole by Annie Proulx. Looking forward to some hiking later this week and a 5-day trip to NC in January

I also was able to set up a home network to share pictures, documents, etc between three laptops, ipads, ipods, android and a wireless printer. It has neat features but it's still clunky for working on multiple things at the same time. I use my home computer for take home work and still prefer Excel 07' or 03' to 2010. Its weird working on multiple Windows platforms and multiple Office platforms depending on which computer I'm on. At work we have 03 and 07 windows.

A: Because it means they don't have to deal with Windows for the next four years. :-?

I'll deal with a little clunkyness to save $1700 each for three computers.

Actually - I pulled a few years back the relatives together for an apple laptop for $3000 - Why? preloaded with full Photoshop, three major graphic design programs. It would of launched any kid into a minimum of a $75,000 dollar a year job... He headed to prestigious art school located in Lancaster City, for a few years. In the Dupont Printing community there is no higher prize. (It has it place)

Back in early 2000 I bought a computer with Windows ME. That piece of crap marked the last time that I bought a Microsoft OS. Macs are expensive, but the darn things just fire up and work. Plus, honestly I spent too much time learning and relearning how to use Windows 3.11, windows 95, Windows 98' windows ME, and all their related programs. I just don't have the patience to relearn how to use their programs each time they decide to roll out a new version. If you have the patience to deal with it, then bless you, please teach me how.

I stretched the useful life of my PowerBook out to almost six years, so in terms of dollars per year of useful life it wasn't that bad.

Yes - My dad brought home a programmable calculator from Dupont that was cutting edge, it was 15 pounds and 5 inch green screen, possibly IBM it could handle 20-50 lines of program... thousands, 1975? Prior to HP Scientific. loved playing with something more expensive then dad's Land Rover! Fyi I have been inside Cern and Bell labs Illinois!

Rough looked like this

The IBM AP-101 computers originally had about 424 kilobytes of magnetic core memory (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_core_memory) each. The CPU could process about 400,000 instructions per second. They had no hard disk drive, and load software from magnetic tape cartridges.
In 1990, the original computers were replaced with an upgraded model AP-101S, which had about 2.5 times the memory capacity (about 1 megabyte) and three times the processor speed (about 1.2 million instructions per second). The memory was changed from magnetic core to semiconductor with battery backup.
Early Shuttle missions, starting in November 1983, took along the GRiD Compass (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GRiD_Compass), arguably one of the first laptop computers. The GRiD was given the name SPOC, for Shuttle Portable Onboard Computer. Use on the Shuttle required both hardware and software modifications which were incorporated into later versions of the commercial product. It was used to monitor and display the Shuttle's ground position, path of the next two orbits, show where the Shuttle had line of sight communications with ground stations, and determine points for location-specific observations of the Earth. The Compass sold poorly, as it cost at least US$8000, but it offered unmatched performance for its weight and size.[39] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle#cite_note-GRiD-39) NASA was one of its main customers.[40 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Shuttle#cite_note-GRiDNASA-40)

The book is awesome, but I personally would not carry it on a hike. The maps (equally awesome - especially the waterproof ones!) will be sufficient. Get the book, peruse it before you head out on your journey. Xerox the sections you think you might need (in addition to the maps). There, just saved some space and weight! :)

I'll get it down to some UL # and I'll start taking more stuff. As it is I'm light enough I can take my candle lantern in winter again, if I can ever get out.....I have too many games, mostly on the weekend.

Not many shelters with ac outlets, you'll have to bring an extension cord, but you can hang all your wet clothes from the rabbit ears on your pack.

I plan to make copies of relevant info, but if we're covering most of the Whites as planned, that could be a lot of pages and might as well bring the book. ..especially if someone else will be toting it :). I"m ordering the waterproof map also. I like redundancy!

WOW,
Thank you for sharing this with us. As I always tell my students technology is "value neutral", what makes a difference is how people use it. It can be used for good, or just as easily as shown here misused. The key is that people need to be aware.

Garuda Tents used to be sewn to order in USA. One of the reasons I paid $$ for it for PCT hike. Funny thing was every day when I got back to office there was a message from Byron. Order received expected ship date, tent shipped, when it didn't arrive when expected called & got Byron. Delay was UPS shipping dates vs real days. When I got the tent & saw their catologue it was then that I realized Byron was the owner of the company

Oxymoron? Catch 22? A little of both?

“There was only one catch and that was Catch-22, which specified that a concern for one's safety in the face of dangers that were real and immediate was the process of a rational mind. Orr was crazy and could be grounded. All he had to do was ask; and as soon as he did, he would no longer be crazy and would have to fly more missions. Orr would be crazy to fly more missions and sane if he didn't, but if he was sane he had to fly them. If he flew them he was crazy and didn't have to; but if he didn't want to he was sane and had to. Yossarian was moved very deeply by the absolute simplicity of this clause of Catch-22 and let out a respectful whistle.

"That's some catch, that Catch-22," he observed.

"It's the best there is," Doc Daneeka agreed.”
