False alarm. She wants more sleep.

I have seen enough TV/movies to know there are a lot of accents.
I hope to become much better at picking where they are from.
But are tent just leaps up off the page at me....:D

Actually as I go - about accents.
There's one 2013 TJ (about 30+entries, well down the list) of a couple on trail next oops this year.
They write "our" as "are".
e.g. "are tent".
I can hear the southern accent every time I read it.:D
We ain'ta gonna go thar. Ya'll a be here soon. Just listen real close for that banja music in Joja.

I considered a "hike faster I can hear banjoes" t shirt but my wife was already having mixed feelings about Daniel's "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun you" one.

Pawling NY is about 10 miles from where I grew up. 30 years ago that was serious Banjo land.

Isn't it funny how the "other" country always seems more dangerous?
Take snakes.
Everyone in the US seems to have an idea that our snakes are just soooo dangerous.
Whilst they are very venomous by and large, all but the death adder which is not common around here, are agile hunters of small prey.
They skedaddle out of your way pretty quick usually and have quite small fangs so when they bite don't inject that much.
A rattlesnake on the other hand is more of a wait and pounce creature.
Strikes me as more dangerous to humans.

I saw the report of the little kid that collected eggs (Brown Rat Snake?) and had them in his closet and they hatched. His mom found them first. It was in the news reports from Australia last week.

Rattlers are just trying to tell you they are there.

I missed it but doesn't surprise me.
Boy children should be placed in a barrel at birth and fed through the bung hole. At puberty a decision should be made as to whether to drive in the bung. (Robert Heinlein I think).:D

Careful OZ - 80% of Americans will not know what type of bung hole you are speaking of. We only use about 10% of the English words available.

This is quite true, we are all less rational about our fears when we are outside of familiar territory. I'm from up north (around mile 1425 in the A.T. for reference) I've never felt the need to bring a gun or the like while hiking up here in Yankee territory. Then when I went down to hang out in Georgia I started thinking that maybe I needed to bring something for self defense just in case. In truth, both areas are equally safe, one is just less familiar and farther from home.

If you want to go minimalist, remember that we only need bullets, most modern cartridges contain unnecessary parts like the shell casing, powder and primer. Those things are as useless to us on a hike as all the extra straps and pockets on a backpack bought at REI.

Personally I carry five .50cal lead ball bullets from my buddy's Hawkin. No moving/exploding parts, nothing to malfunction, cheap and effective to throw!

Almost as fun as Gaelic Football. I was on the West-Putnam Gales in NY growing up. Played center under 12's and under 14's, Goalie in under 16's. The basics - Just like soccer but each team has 16 players on the field. You use you hands. Severe body checking is allowed. The goalie is off limits inside the small box (That's why I could play in under 16's). 1 Point over the top, 3 points under. That's pretty much it. Hurling is the same game but with a stick and hard ball.

For some reason, I still don't know, the chicken mans wife allowed me to date her daughter. She was lovely, IQ of about 200, she could play the piano and the Flute. She also worked in the market....her hands were so nasty. They looked like she had worked in the ditches for 50 years.

Martin is pretty handy with a chicken also:

http://youtu.be/9lh-BEktzbs

Martin is always great but that was a much easier technique then deboning the whole chicken. My favorite chef has got the be Ferdinad Metz who was the President of the Culinary Institute of America for about 25 years. Multiple time culinary olympics team captain for the USA. Nice guy also.

Hey, I worked in a chicken market when I was a teen. Did you know that chickens have lips......not a pretty sight.
When I was a kid the whole family would buy a truckload of chickens. A few days were set aside for "processing". One year I got boiling and plucking. Man that was nasty. Next year I was given the option of plucking or chopping heads. Well I took cutting heads. I would hold them by the feet and Dad would chop the heads. This was done on a saw horse. Blood was everywhere. Up and down my shirt, in my eyes, in my ears. Everywhere. I had to hold on to the headless chicken and put it back in the crate and get a new one. Don't think those chickens with heads don't know whats going on, cause they do. They'd peck like hell. But it beat that dang stinky boiling and plucking. Those chickens would get away from me and be bouncing of the garage and running around the yard like a chicken with it's head cut off. (LOL) One time one got in the river and I turned around and looked at my Dad and he just pointed. In the river I went, swimming after a headless chicken thrashing in the water. I got him. Every year I'd look at that truck and it seemed like chicken crates were stacked to the sky. I'd think, here we go. But I ain't boiling no chicken. To this day, I'll eat it. But it ain't my favorite. (LOL)

I worked with a guy that would stretch pasta through the rolling machine by crimping the end together. Then he would flour his wrist and turn the crank handle to stretch the pasta dough. He would not adjust the rollers on the pasta machine. He could whip out pasta four times faster then the rest of us. Good cook but he kept getting arrested on Payday friday.

Mahoosic story one: Ran into couple I hadn't seen since Damascus on top of Goose Eye. As i got here an outward Bound group was leaving. We lounged in the sunshine & caught up for a while as we watched the group scamper up the next peak. We decided to get moving & soon caught up with them. Their decent modes provided much admusment. One person tried to slide down shredding his jeans, another girl hurled her pack down, walked to it & threw it again. As we walked down the granite slabs a girl was kinda climbing down looked up & said" Yeah you make it look easy!"

A kid without pack comes racing by shelter & down the dead end trail to spring. Before we can say anyting female leader of OB group is in front of us kinda jumping around looking in different directions. As a group we kinda point in the direction the kid ran off in & without a word she runs off!
