its so funny how we all like the same music - obviously, I like this last Neil Young one (It's called Natural Beauty) too - I did listen to it for a whole year living in the bed in the back of my pickup truck though so it sort of reminds me of living on the road and not to be honest the greatest parts - flat tires, asphalt, rain, truck stop showers and so forth. I still love the song though - what a pretty trail song - thanks for posting

Update time.
After 6 months of telling me that I can have 7 months leave without pay, my boss told me a few days ago that Melbourne administration have told him they can't keep my job open that long.
After discussion with my wonderful wife, we decided that we are in a position that I can cease fulltime work.
I may return to some kind of employment after I return although I am not motivated to do so even before my hike, but we have no definite plans and I am certainly not looking for fulltime work again.
At most I will do some oddjobs or very short term work. Most likely I will do some hobby/craft things that make some money when we do market stalls.
So for want of a better term I am "retiring" on 5th March.

I was going to post that link but had the pic instead.
My boss seems genuinely p#####d that he can't give me the leave and wants me to promise to come around as soon as I get back but I think I will only do so to say "Hi - I did it!".:D
In the meantime I am being left for my last 8 weeks on my preferred run - the long country one.
I am working 6 day weeks except for 2 more weekends that my wife and I are doing market stalls.
So what do you sell at your stall?
Sounds like you got a graet wife. I have too myself. I retired 18 months ago. It was at a 50% rate. My wife and I discussed it and she has long known my dream and said just quit the sock mill and get ready to go. So that's what I did. The difference at 50% now and 100% at 65 is the same till age 75. Only after that does it start to pay more. But who's to say if I make it that far or what physical shape I'd be in. I'm not the pillar of physical fitness, but right now I'm in good enough shape to give it a go.
That's my plan, to go out with 50% sometime within the next 5 years. Hopefully 3. Makes sense to me to enjoy my time. I can say "Would you like fries with that?" if needed.
You know you're not supposed to post stuff like that on here, it's in violation of the cafe user agreement. Someone might mistake us as a source of useful & educational information.

Get a kiddy pool at wally world and 10 gallons of deet. Fill pool and soak yourself for 3 to 4 hours. Bugs will never bother you again.

on the 2nd floor they had a vip lounge with a jukebox, had everything from bobby darin to buzzccks. i fed a roll of quarters in and played sinatras witchcraft 40 times in a row. at first there was a lot of cursing and grumbling, after 4 or 5 times people started snapping their fingers, 9 or 10 times they were starting to move their feet and after about 15 times they were singing out the choruses like lunatics. it was a bizarre surreal scene with guyss and girls with mohawks and safety pins, hot leatherettes all dancing cheek to cheek to frankie

Is it the approaching start of the NOBO thru-hiker season that has all the people asking crazy questions now or what???? I'd list two current ones most deserving of the Interrogative Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot over award but but I don't want to start a war on WB. Do they not know that one can and "may" search WB for this kind of thing or do they imagine they are the first person to ask this question??? I'm actually embarrassed for them.
Why search when you are at that relative "infant" stage where you still think the world revolves around you. Yes, it probably never phases them that some one has probably asked the same question (perhaps many times) before. It is entertaining though if you are in the correct mindset.
Be awesome for the prom, but probably a little to pricey and complex to get them altogether again in Monson.

No X-husband, Coach, but have meet some interesting people, along the way, that made me realize things that I never knew existed, inside people. Seriously, you can't imagine & it's "deep." Serious thread drift action so I won't go there, ever. Besides, it's not funny so it doesn't belong in the humor thread, anyway. :)

hey, Mr. "walk in the woods" did a number on the AT AND on Australia. When i finished reading his book (in a sunburnt country?) i figured i'd never be brave enough to go there. i apologize -- i haven't read the last 50 pages of post so i don't know if this has come up already. sorry i'm late to the cafe. and koalas must just exist as an easy food source for all the other killer creatures.
I suspect his book on AT is closer to reality than his one on Oz.
Love his work generally but didn't like his book on us. Saw too many flaws in his facts.

Hey while Socks is out I have a topic for contribution...
I was talking to Daniel about the music HB and others are posting and mentioned the Boss.
You guys are gunna love him - he never ceases to amaze me.
He starts quoting a song (Downward Bound or similar?) and then fires up a YouTube clip and shows me how he knows all the words up to a point that it becomes impossible to work out what Bruce is saying - comes across as gibberish.
(By the way he know Les Miserables pretty well word for word - he amazes me)
He describes the song as one of Bruces best and worst because he loves the lyrics and then hates it because he can't follow them through.
So my thought for everyone while we're on the music clip bandwagon around here is what song do you know that gives you the greatest disappointment during it.
For me it's Neil Diamond and that fantastic opening on Hot August Night which builds up and up and then he starts singing "dah dah di dee or some inane rubbish like that.

I love 70's on 7 (commercial free) It's the music I grew up with. :) I really don't like the songs that were "overplayed". I just got so tired of hearing them back then. Even when I hear them now, I can't listen.
