I got released from Jury duty today. I have to work tomorrow and then I am free for a week. I can't decide between doing a loop in Grayson, AT in the Smokies or making my way up to Shenandoah and hiking from Rockfish North for five or six days. Time for a café poll.

Hey! Thought I'd pop into the cafe, been busy. My wife finally caved on having me get snowshoes, and of course the snow promptly melted, and refroze, and melted, and refroze. (And because I have snowshoes, we have a guarantee that it will not snow for the rest of the winter.)

Microspikes all the way, and my hamstrings and groin muscles were bitching today from stamping to set the spikes on that hard ice. And I got a snag in the seat of my favorite pants while glissading (with spikes off - I know better than to glissade while pointy). Still, as HB says, it's all good.

So how's the rest of the gang doing? Getting out any? Any good winter pictures to show around?

Brings back memories of hiking GSMNP last March. Combination of snow and ice makes this interesting. Benefit of having a backpack is that you usually backwards instead of forward.

Should've been more than a 2 dog night, but I only have 2 dogs... At what point is it a 15 dog night? Do I want to know?

Your standard 3 Dog Night becomes a 6 Dog Night when all you have are toy dogs. Here in the south, anything below 30 degrees qualifies for the 6-Dogger. Next couple nights will find me curled up with the Chihuahua 6 Pack. I might get the beer too :)

Sassy, the female never sleeps on the bed. She has a bed in the Bay window. The last week she has plopped herself just under the woodstove in our bedroom

Ha ha! They ARE related to my dogs! My dogs have crates in "their" room, but that room has windows everywhere. I had to move their crates to the living room, so they will stay toasty at night. During the day, they both sprawl in front of the fire...and give me a "look" when they think I have not been throwing enough wood on the fire.

I think your cats are related to my dogs. They normally scamper out of the house just fine, but I have had to convince them to go out the past couple of days. They think I am just trying to hog the best spot in front of the fire. :D

There have been a few nights, while camping, where I wished I had a fireplace...But, haven't quite figured that one out yet. Hmmmm...

I will be camping where it is warm, so no worries there!
