You ever have any relatives who's favorite past time was watching their company eat? I had an aunt that way, even after they were through eating, they kept wanting to give you more, and seemed to get great pleasure if you did. She probably would have made a great trail angel. :)

If you go at 17* (never mind wind chill factor), you are a better man than me. It is one thing if you are on a hike like I was in GSMNP last year and that is the weather you get, and you just make the most of it.

It is a totally different when you are walking out of your house, and know that you can walk right back in.

No, I think they discussed it beforehand, about having a second thread to post music on. The cafe had got to the point where the videos outnumbered the chat portion. Did you know MM can't post to the cafe anymore, and no one can figure out why?

mike told me he couldnt get into the cafe, alligator didnt know why and that theyre trying to figure out how to fix it. at the same time, i let the video genie out of the bottle and it began to overwhelm the conversation without any clear direction. i mean we're inherently all about thread drift, but theres a flow to it that stopped with all the vids. so i sugggested to mike he start a jukebox so that we can still converse with him in the same way, and the other thread would be heavier in music. well still have music here but i want it to fit into the flow and not overwhelm the conversation(s).
believe it or not there is structure here in the lack of structure. ive gone back from time to time just to pull up an old page or two, and i have to hand it to you guys, theres some great great stuff archived here.

RS, if you go to the WhiteBlaze logo at the top left of this page, and click on it, it will send you back to the home page. It's not a very intuitive navigation choice. I'm guessing someone thought their update was installed and working properly, went off to do other stuff this weekend, and doesn't know it's all screwed up. Is this temporary or permanent???

Let's see, nothing is more permanent than that which is temporary,

I avoid the outside world (people that is) and news as much as possible. Warming up a bit up here. Did a little window shopping. Have a couple things yet to buy for the July walk. Not sure what I think of the new format yet. Change is hard... and sometimes good.

Do you ever play hockey yourself Lou?

Rarely, the too few pond hockey situations, September, I go back to the home program to get my edge, but I'm on the ice 3/4 days a week.........I can't even watch it on TV.......I can't 'see' the game......gotta' go!

It's +17F here. That feels warm compared to the last few days. Getting down to +5F tonight. I think I'll throw a cup of coffee in the microwave. Should be ready in 2 minutes.

I know. I know. Crying for the trees reminds me of a t-shirt I saw once. It said, "Save a tree, wipe your ass with a spotted owl. Hehehehe....

I cry for trees all the time. It always makes me sad when I'm on the trail and come across a big fallen oak tree that has been on the forest floor long enough to season, but is too far away from a road for me to get it to my woodstove!

I find this pretty interesting, most of the highs were in the 1930's, non are recent dates, what happened to global warming?

This could start another fight. They have given up on the Global Warming term. It is now Climate Change. I remember in the late 70's that we were headed to the next ice age. Too many cows farting. Ya', right. That's the problem.

To explain Drybone's question only, and without trying to start an argument.

Global Warming means the observed increase of the average temperature of the planet as a whole. During the period from 1905 - 2006 the global average temperature rose about 1.4*(f), with much of the temperature increase being recorded in the oceans. (again, I am only stating what the documented change has been. I am not going to put any discussion of possible causes, or speculation about future temperature changes, politics, etc. in the cafe)

Climate change is the term describing the different effects that changes in global temperature have had on different regions since it has an effect on weather patterns around the world. Some have gotten relatively hotter, some relatively colder, some relatively wetter, some relatively dryer, etc as a result of the already documented temperature change.

Scientists finally learned a while back that they needed to start using the term climate change instead of global warming when talking to the public, because people who live in an area that is getting relatively colder have an understandably hard time noticing that the earth is 1.4* warmer.

When I was growing up, the manager of the Walgreen's in town had hair that was somewhat of a local legend. The man was well into his late 60's if not mid 70's and what was left of his hair had turned bright white. Still, this did not discourage him from putting his decades old, strawberry blonde toupee each morning before heading to work.
