If you consider everyone standing around watching the pitcher scratch his arse to be 'constant action', I suppose there's constant action in baseball. It's marginally faster than cricket, I suppose.

I haven't found a sport or game I didn't enjoy playing....hate watching them all, I do put the TV on a baseball game when I want to nap...puts me right out.

That's what I mean by how the server accepts the post. The timing. One time I posted in the same thread from my wife's computer and mine. Both laptops. Mine was using 3G. Hers was using broadband. I posted with mine first and hers right after. Hers beat mine. I was just fooling around with nothing to do and hillbilly rocket science experimenting. Our means have gone from way more than we needed to just enough to get by over the course of these kids lives. It has actually been good for all of us. We know what matters, and many folks seem a bit lost in that regard these days. Fortunately not here at HikerBoys Cyber Cafe. Y'all rock.

I wish Brice Hammock would write a book. Completed the triple crown twice after he retired. I hiked with him some on the PCT. He was with his 30ish daughter. He enjoyed her company but slowed him down to high teens. Said it barely felt like he was making much progress. Last time I saw him I asked about his summer's hike. He said he was feeling really beat up & at his age (87) he decided no more long distance treks...nothing over 500 miles!

I'm a big time Walmart hater. So is my wife. We do everything we can to avoid shopping there. I push them hard in my emails. Walmart used to be (a long, long time ago) a really good place to shop. If there was something you wanted, they had it. And in 3 price categories. Good, better, best, according to what you were willing to pay. Now it has turned into a one choice take it or leave it, for the most part, a crappy item. If they even have it. So if we can we shop mom and pop as local as we can.
So far I have lasted over 56 years without setting foot in one...:p

i thought that would thro you for a loop. he is a character in a series of books put out by lee child called the reacher novels. i have been reading them for 5 yrs or so. they made a movie this year based on the books and tom cruise is jack reacher. the big bad ex army cop who know roams the country basically off the grid. he fills certain needs for individuals that need some kind of help. tom cruise is a shrimp and in the book reacher is a giant so im not sure how i will like the movie after reading the books.

Do I curtail my time here and post number 2186 from the Hiker Hostel, or do I go over to the dark side with TW and co. and go for post 2186 in the cafe from the Hiker Hostel??
This is post 1533 in the cafe (and I repeat my claim to having the highest % of total posts in this fine establishment).:D
650 posts in 43 odd days may be doable but I am travelling for a number of those...

maybe I will use trail journals to ease use here..

Normally all you see of a gator are those beady little eyes above the water line. When the kids were young we went searching for gators to watch, didn't find any gators but had a fantastic experience with manetees, right next to us, you could reach over the boat and touch them, really neat, peaceful animals...nothing like those mean old gators.

I remember that one quite well. Happened just before I was driving to Franklin, NC and they rerouted us through all these back roads. I-40 was also out at the time, so I had to take 441 out thru GSMNP (Newfound Gap) and Gatlinberg. Both ways made for slow going.

Also try any school night after midnight and see all the kids.

I would usually go late at night to avoid the crowds, and then one time at 11:45pm the place was packed with teens and twenty somethings. I asked an employee what was going on? They said "New Moon", and I thought what in the world does the moon have to do with this (are they werewolves or something?). By 12:30 when I checked out it was back to normal. Later found out that "New Moon" was the new Twilight DVD that went on sale at midnight.

Re NY to ATL.
Will confirm next couple of days but going back to the drive option.
Cost not much more and we are looking at arriving NYC late afternoon Sat 16th March.
Plan is to grab a cheap hotel nearby as will probably be late before we get through customs etc (we are coming in from the middle east side).
Sunday we get a car rental and head off to Atlanta.
I am looking at heading out Allentown PA way and then through Waynesboro and Damascus with the idea of spending Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights in trail towns on the way down.
Looks like a 1000 mile trip which we are very comfortable with over two full and two part days.

ohoh! You'll be driving thru my neck of the woods!

I saw a group of sort of suffering through it winter campers at Plum Orchard Gap on Saturday and a few other random people that I just said my "hi there" to on Saturday and Sunday - - solo camped Saturday at Big Spring Shelter then tented on Saturday near the fire tower at Telico Gap where it snowed on me a bit - - there were some people at the shelter that I said hi to. My friend who lives at the NOC (seasonal kayak instructor) met me on Monday about 10am and gave me coffee and took my pack up to Stecoah - didn't see anyone there but saw a couple of guys at Brown Fork Gap - - I don't think I passed anyone else all the way to the dam - maybe one person. After my friend (same) met me at the Dam and took me back to GA it was like 11:30 pm - - I got home about 2am this morning and spent this morning cleaning up gear etc. whew. I spent a good bit of time taking yak-trax on and off shoes - - busted a piece of rubber on those things too.

Shame on the parents, they should know better than that. Really early on in raising children we learned about the "side effects" of children being tired and hungry.
