We're closing in on a foot plus at my house. The plow hasn't been by in hours and think the only vehicle that's made it through is a neighbor's snowmobile.

wonder if anyone is out on the trail in CT/MA/VT - I love me a good blizzard - I hiked CT in the snow 2 springs ago (mostly post-holing - it was fun) - when it all melts, you should go to the Falls on the Housatonic River - bet it will be going off like mad.

I kind of wish I was out on the trail right now, but then again it was a mix of snow and freezing rain when I was out day hiking earlier, so I'm glad to be back inside with my woodstove.

I'm not a fan of it when the Housatonic floods, it tends to really mess up my back yard. Has never reached the house, but got to the deck in spring of 2011.

Yup that. I can feel it coming on, IF I realize what it really is. That doesn't sound like it makes sense, but no other way to describe. If I have to take a second one soon after, then it's not a good thing. People have to drive me home for work. Sux.

Oz, is Paul Hogan anywhere near as popular and well remembered at home as he is in the USA? At by our generation.
Fair to say yes.
Most of recent news about him is his big fight with our taxman that he largely won.
Probably better remembered by older folk for his TV show (Paul Hogan Show).
It's very local in his humour and not that good a viewing for Americans.
If you can find a clip of his mate "Strop" making a hangover cure it's guaranteed to cut through culture barriers though.
His movies (1st one anyway) were very popular here too.
Lost a lot of fans when he ditched his wife for the co star but I don't think he scrimped on the divorce settlement and it's proven to be a long lasting relationship so that's mellowed too.

In the whole 56 years of my life I have experienced snowfall once - 2011 in Victorian Alps.
I believe you would describe it as a light dusting, although while I was further down the mountain a couple of inches fell for me overnight to enjoy the next day.

In the whole 56 years of my life I have experienced snowfall once - 2011 in Victorian Alps.
I believe you would describe it as a light dusting, although while I was further down the mountain a couple of inches fell for me overnight to enjoy the next day.

The arctic region native people have many differrent names for each condition of snow. You will no doubt see a few types in March.

I was robbed! There's only about a half-inch of snow out there!

I've never been happier.

On the other hand... there's a freaking fly in my house. A fly! That's the second fly in a week. Where the heck are they coming from? It's just weird.

Nasty Winter Storm. Gas line froze or something on the way to get the papers had to get pulled in to a service station. Waiting for the papers to get dropped so I can do a late delivery around the neighbourhood. Supposed to keep blowing and snowing until Midnight tonight. Up to 12 degF from -6F yesterday evening, Wind getting stronger now NE 36 gusting 51 mph. Not alot of snow still coming down but some, and alot blowing around and in off the river, and some aluminum siding from an apartment building by the Millidgeville Tim Hortons. Right Nasty and papers still not done.

Years ago I bought a book "The world's Most Dangerous Places" or something like that. It was big & had lots of interesting info. Like his motorcyle tour of Vietnam, where he always stopped for a break on pavement to avoid old land mines. Many places in the world like that. Or countries where kidnapping is a common way for factions to raise money. Still think most of the world is safe to travel if you are informed & take proper precautions.

It will be soon enough, but no, it gets cold-ish here in winter. Last month it dropped below freezing a few nights. Not FAR below, but below. The northern part of the country gets real winters too. Although it did snow in Baghdad in January of '08. First time in 99 years I was told.
