My day was supposed to be a short run to a city hospital (I deliver linen for those that wonder - at least I did until an hour ago).
Then a long run to a country one (120 mile each way).
Backing in at the first one my 6 month old truck "died".
Dirty fuel in the injectors suspected.
5 1/2 hours of mis management by my bosses, the truck company and the roadside assist people and the tow truck arrives.
Jacko catches a train back to the laundry and knocks off....FOREVER!:)

Congrats Oz. Happy for you.

In the strict Japanese sense syllables aren't numbered, characters are but for English it is 5, 7, 5.
Bit more to it than that, but that's the starting point. Search on Wikipedia and you'll get more.Found it...and somethin about seasons being defined...cool

Storm, I save the smiley to my computer first and then insert it into my post. The "insert image" feature is the fourth icon from the right. After you click on the icon, click on "from computer". Then click on "select files". After you find the image on your computer, double click on it. Next, click on "upload files". Hope that helps. Copy and paste works on some pictures and other times it doesn't.

Just had a bit of a thunderstorm.
I think thats first actual rain since before Christmas.
Temp at 6:30am 29C, 9:30 24C.
We had 40C yesterday and forecast for today was 38C.
May still get it but 26 tomorrow and a string of 20 somethings after that.
Might be just about the end of the really hot stuff.

congratulations oz, we're all excited for you.
i remember when my grandfather retired. when i was a kid my grandparents lived with us in a two family house. he had worked to 65 and finally retired. i saw him one day maybe 6 months or so since he had stopped working and he looked miserable. so i asked him what was the matter and he told me "im retired". i said 'whats wrong with that?you worked in the coal mines for 20 years and busted your butt in a machine shop for another 30 when you came to ny. you worked hard your whole life, you deserve it, so what seems to be the problem?"
he looked at me, sighed ,and said"have you met your grandmother?"

he loved his wife, but wasnt used to the 24/7/365, so he was bored. became the best tomato farmer on the block, as well as the "neighborhood grandpa"taught me and my friends to play baseball, and in turn my younger brothers and their friends.he was the most giving caring person, and although he never had a lot of money, he was the richest man i know. he was happiest when he was helping someone.he dies 16 years ago at the age of 86.

Thanks for sharing that.
I have found most people that I know and like can relate to an older peron who had a big impression on their youth.
I think a child who doesn't grow up with s dtrong relationship with an older person misses out on a lot of "people" understanding.

Know an old guy back in Albany who worked on the railways for decades.
Included working for years on the trains that transported raw asbestos from the mine in our north.
Lots of his co-workers contracted mesothelioma (?spelling) which we're told is caused by asbestos.
In his late 80's, fit as a fiddle, he would tell me the asbestos may have contributed but not one of his co workers who was a non smoker ever got it.
Not scientific I know but he used to describe how they waded through carriages filled with the stuff.

I wish you both well, it was the hardest of all my vises, ended up in the hospital, and couldn't smoke, asked the doctor for some suppression drugs so I wouldn't climb the walls...it helped, and it worked cause I quit.....plus I like breathing better...best thing I ever did for myself. I too am off my soap box now, it's just that I can relate, and I wouldn't want any of my buds to think there's nothing more can be done...the stuff works, but like most I had to hit rock bottom on that one too.....done now:)

I love Jimmy Johnson and think he did some great with the Cowboys like he did with U of Miami Hurricanes, but always felt bad for how he was associated with the Tom Landry exit. DH,after doing some Motown stuff, touring with Nat Stuckey, and writing a lot of songs, Gary recorded an album worth of stuff for MCA (Decca) in the 60s, but nothing became of it. So we had copies of all these 45s that never made it to the radio. Then when he started traveling with Charlie Pride, being on TV, and having hits with RCA in the early 70s, MCA released an album from those songs he had recorded in the 60s (which included both those I posted). It was neat getting to hear on the radio songs you had been listening to for years.

Unlike many of my compatriots I actually know your game pretty well (the watching, not the playing).
I do enjoy but not a live telecast.
Far too stop and start for my liking.
Watching at the game would be better for the atmosphere, but on TV I prefer it with a lot of the timeouts and team changeovers cut out.
I have a theory that the only games "allowed" to become popular in the US are those that lend themselves to lots of advertising. "Gridiron" football, baseball and basketball are all perfect for commercial TV.
It's why I can't see Association football (AKA soccer) ever becoming a top sport over there.
You would need a TV channel like the UK's BBC or our ABC that would telecast the whole game commercial free.

Not having commercials during your television programming causes extra problems.
Watched a documentary on electricity supply in Britain once.
When their most popular evening TV program ends, something like 15 million water kettles get turned on at the same time.
The power company people sit in a control room trying to manage the power surge and call in power stations in France to cover the couple of minutes spike!
Similar drains (pun intended) occur on the water supply to the toilets.

I grew up playing soccer (aka "the world game"). Dutch background and all.
Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia and Western Australia play "Australian Rules Football". The one featured in that video.
New South Wales and Queensland follow Rugby League, not to be confused with Rugby Union which is immensely popular in New Zealand and South Africa.
All states nowadays have a team in the relevant national league (except us and SA in rugby league and Tas in either). All types are played in every state but those are the most popular codes in each state. Soccer is always 2nd or 3rd at best.
We have a three nation competition with NZ and S. Africa in Rugby Union with about 3 or 4 teams in each country competing. Now there's a travel program, NZ to South Africa. A bit like Denver travelling to Madrid Spain.

A bit like Denver travelling to Madrid Spain.I'd love to see more Aus. rules foot ball on the tube...just don't wanna pay for the total cable package...they git cha at the cable Co. say your gonna be here during football season...cool, some of the bars will be hopping. Usually players start showing up to camp around oh 3rd week in July, or 1st week in Aug. a couple weeks after that starts exhibition games.....not sure when the season opener is this year...somewhere around 1st week in Sept, hopefully you'll be in or done with the whites

I've been wondering about that.
My hope is to finish around last week of August.
Our tickets home are booked for 14th September (from NYC).
I thought it might be possible to catch a game before we go but we have a trail to hike first.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-signs125.gif
