He never saw one (a bear that is). I think that the hiker stench kept them away. Many of the critters that one would see are nocteurnal. Besides shelter mice I have seen raccoons, oppossums, a fox and several deer around shelters at night. I have only seen bears during the daylight hours. No moose or bobcats yet.
