I would like to consider corporate sponsorship to obtain some basic foundational gear; how have you done this? Also, I will need to set up a promotional page and do some long-range fund raising. Anyone have insights on this?

Part of the answer I already know: it will require the same mental discipline it took when I hiked in 1985.

On that hike I began with about 56 pounds of gear, shedding much by Suches, as do many. And even then I believed I had cut and dumped all but the essentials. By the time I finished in the fall I did an inventory and the total gear plus food was 32 pounds! That was in the White Mountains with cold weather clothing.

I begin the process of fulfilling the commitment I made to get re-fit by 2013 for another expedition. Much has changed; gear, technology, communications, etc. Even the Trail, to be sure. There's a lot to think about, reflect on, and evaluate, and what better way to spend the time during such ruminations than simply beginning to walk and regain the feeling of being in my body. Lots of local trail here to stretch out on, and it's time to begin!
