The area where I live still has about 18"-24" of snow on the ground and it's just too snowy and cold for me to do any hiking right now. I don't snowshoe and I hate walking on the treadmill but I guess I'm going to have to start doing it unless it warms up.   2. Preparing for my first AT section hike (State) in 2013

    I think I'm just about all packed and ready. For my hiking, I don't plan to restock at all while hiking various states throughout 2013. This is creating somewhat of a weight issue for me as I got my pack weight down to about 18#'s. However, with food and water, the weight is now at or very near 30#'s and it may go higher as I'm concerned I won't have enough calories for the trip.

    Hiking-wise, I plan to complete CT, NY, NJ, MA, VT, MD and WVA this year. I may also do the eastern half ...

  3. My First Journal Entry....

    Welcome to my blog for the Appalachian Trail and how I'll hike "my hike" this year. I thought it might make sense to start off with explaining "why" I want to do this.

    Honestly, it doesn't make sense to hike the AT - not really, when you think about of today's comforts of home and that, in another couple of months, I'm going to head out - leaving all of this behind and put myself through a lot of physical discomfort as well as pretty tough hiking for days on end. ...
