APPALACHIAN TRAIL RESEARCH STUDY SEEKING PARTICIPANTS

An on-line survey is now available for an academic study which seeks to understand the value, meaning and therapeutic notions of the Appalachian Trail thru-hiking experience. All current and alumni thru-hikers are invited to participate. Shaw's Lodging is Open in Monson this year (2013)

I have been in contact Dick and Dawn from Shaw's Lodging in Monson ME. It seems that rumors have been going up the trail that they are closed this year. This is not true. Shaw’s will be open this season (2013) with all the services they have always offered. Shaw’s is for sale but they will still be hosting hikers this year.

We have added another feature currently only available for Donating Members.

Donating Members can now add threads to their ignore list. They will be able to accumulate up to 100 threads on their ignore listing. This amount can me raised later if we feel there is a need to. By doing this the thread will not show up anymore for you except when doing search results.

The Mountain Goat outfitter in Hanover, NH closed

I received this from the manager of The Mountain Goat outfitter in Hanover, NH.

I was the manager of The Mountain Goat outfitter in Hanover, NH. We went out of business on March 30th. Unfortunately, the news about us having to close came after the publication of the 2013 ALDHA Companion and Awol's AT Guide.

The Post Office in town has been notified to hold packages marked "Hold for AT Hiker" if one is sent to the store through the postal service. I am deeply saddened by this sudden and inconvenient loss of the store. The Hanover Friends of the AT group is working to staunch the loss of services this closure threatens. I am contacting other outfitters to spread the word. Please note that The Mountain Goat in Manchester, VT is unaffected- they were not affiliated with our business. Feel free to contact me with questions, and if you are able to post this notice, I will be most grateful.
