norovirus began his thru hike in early march. we were able to track his progress north up through pennsylvainia, but havent heard anything about him in two weeks.
i know he was a loner, as most people did not want to hike with norovirus, nor shelter with him.
did norovirus have to get off trail?injury? bad water?homesick?
someone said he was just section hiking, intending to do a complete thru hike next year.
is his thru hike in jeopardy? will norovirus be able to hit katahdin before baxter closes in october?
cant understand why we havent heard anything. hope hes okay.

Which do you think is funnier? The fact that the "yellow blazers" got their own fragrance in the "American ROAD Trip Collection" or your own personal recollection of smells on the AT (which likely were not worthy of a fragrance)......

i wanted to start a thread about naysayers. i think we should have our own forum. you know , the ones who say its impossible to thru hike
unsupported in just 22 days. what do you feel or the most naysayed subjects on wb?
conversely , why not post your boast. i mean who says it cant be done?
or tell us about one of your favorite boasts here on wb.

I had an idea the other day while walking, that's when I do by best thinking. It seems to me that lately many posts are met with skepticism or disbelief. This results in several pages of challenges and rebuttals. I dislike having to read through all these posts to decide if the original post is legit. My idea is to establish a peer review committee to validate any post that is submitted as fact. Perhaps a separate forum could be established to house these vetted posts. I propose the review committee be comprised of three qualified experts. An expert would meet one of the following categories:
1). has over 5000 posts on WB or
2). meets two of the following:
a. has attended three Trail Days festivals
b. has stayed at the Doyle Hotel
c. has read "A Walk In The Woods" or
3). meets two of the following:
a. has been on top of Mt. Washington, or Clingmans Dome, or Mt. Greylock
b. has been to the AT Museum
c. has any gear made of Cuben fiber

The committee would be responsible for reviewing any posts that contain a perceived fact. Once a majority of the committee has approved the post it would then be regarded as fact and it would be posted for the general readership. This would result in saving time and reducing friction among WB users.

Not that i have hike the wrong way, ok, maybe once. My question for discussion is :

Does hiking the wrong way on the AT count toward the 2000 miles or does it subtract?

The first was a Franconia Ridge loop with Lincoln and Lafayette. I got done early and decided to go to Chororua and hike from the route 112 trailhead. So I've started putting together my new gear list and wanted your help.

I'm building my kit around this key chain back pack -- I know, a little heavy at 4 ounces, but I want to err on the side of comfort:

for sleeping, this silk liner should be fine -- but only for three seasons. I'll ditch the stuff sack and wear it as a sarong during the day:


I'll pair the liner with 1/8" packing foam for a pad.


Finally, a .5 mil drop cloth completes the list, all for well under one pound.
