That's great :)
(Thankfully) There isn't enough data, but I'd like to see some statistics on people trying to pull out their pistols and accurately shoot (and stop!) a charging bear vs. someone with...

Glad you had fun. I've been to GOTG several times and have thought about the River to River trail. I suspected it was poorly marked. Sounds like I'd be better off finishing the Sheltowee Trace...
I would (will?) camp Friday night (New Years Day) and head out Saturday. Believe it or not I've never hiked the Sycamore trail, so if solo that is what I will do. But I'm completely fine with the...
Happy Holidays
I am almost 100% that I'll be there. I will also be camping at least one night, if anybody is interested in that. And this time let's try to keep the spoons in the packs until we get to camp please.
i have a light year xp (synthetic version) 20* and i am happy with it. i've had it out in 15* weather or so and it wasn't too bad. worth the money, especially if you can get it cheap from...
I'm really happy for you Gorp Gobbler. You deserve a run of good luck!
Since you're in TN, we could all meet in the Red River Gorge, or something along those lines if you want. I HIGHLY recommend...
So you're already in Tennessee GG? Congrats on the job!!!
:p That's what I was getting at, you'd of had to crawl up an ice covered hill. Hard to show sarcasm on the internet.
The worst part is, the hill the spoon fell down was covered in ice. He could have easily slid down and retrieved it.
personally i would rather have a real book than an ebook, especially when it comes to a trail guide.
congrats on yet another thru hike. you're extreme and professional in my book, no matter what...

ain't that the truth. you can prepare for bad weather and somewhat for animals, but you never know *** people are going to do.
who cares what some old grumpy men on an internet message board have to say? if you think you've earned a title, then by all means embrace it. FTW and good luck on your future adventures man.
I may have overlooked it, but just wanted to let people know that you can buy spray with 0.5% permethrin at walmart for 5 bucks.
that's good to know. i will probably do the KT this winter and will make a note of that.
i'll keep an eye on this thread, i'd like to catch up with you guys again.
i'm heading out friday after...
yeah knobstone would be the way to go for a Indiana shake down. just be sure to cache water at the road crossings!
what are they defending us against again?
hell yes :banana
If he was out for some trolling firestarting BS, wouldn't he, oh, I don't know... name the particular hostel?
yeah. i guess i'll just forget about that thread.
alright, thanks
did the thread about the new chris mccandless documentary on KET disappear?
I talked to someone who has hiked the whole trail several times. I have a lot of info I will PM you GG. But in a nutshell it sounds like a very tough and challenging trail.
If you ever perform this at the Humana festival (or anywhere around town) let me know. I enjoyed reading your excerpt and would definitely check out the whole thing.
I can't recommend a particular shoe. But I will stress the importance of testing the shoe out and breaking it in before a long thru hike. Not much worse than being a couple days into a long hike and...
