I found you can listen to all these suggestions on here but your still gonna wind up with 3 backpacks, 4 sleeping bags, 5 sleeping pads, 2 headlamps, 2 tents.......................Well I did anyway.:)

Wife carries all food related items. I carry tent (only 2lbs) & water filter. We each carry our own bedding, clothes, water......

I have a pocket rocket & it weighs next to nothing. But save some $ & go to amazon & buy one similar to it. Cost like $7 & works just as well.
I would go hiking poles for sure. Think most people like them. Get collapsible ones. If you don't like them, strap them to your bag & truck on.
A really good cold weather sleeping bag. Light weight. Under $200. Any suggestions? Oh yea, I'm 6'3".
