Sorry, should have clarified. Looking around in middle/late August.
Thanks everyone for the thoughts. Does anyone have a specific route they'd recommend in this case? It appears there are several very experienced hikers with the area and I'd definitely take a...
Does anyone know the CDT trail mileage to go from the Bob to Glacier? Obviously, depends on where you go in/oout, but just curious as to if I could hit both without hiking over 200 miles. Any help is...
Couldn't disagree more with this statement. This website is full of people who don't hike or get outside. Just look at post counts.
So says the guy that hasn't done anything yet himself. We'll see how you do on the AT, Tough Guy.
I just love all the debbie downers on this site. It's always the same one that criticize the people trying to pursue their dreams. Is it because you're jealous? Is it because you're scared to...
While his book is humorous, it is almost entirely ficticious.
I decided to do the trail in 2009 in March, quit my job the next month and was on the trail April 15th. Just go do it, you won't regret it!
Both are great packs and the advice above is SPOT-On. The Ohm will carry extra weight better with only a couple ounce penalty for the extra frame and slight increase in capacity.
Seriously, you are a freaking loser. How much time, money and energy have you devoted to this? Get your ass off your computer and go for a hike, it might do you some good. With how much time you...
Mr. Matthewski, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be...
False, I had one blister the entire trail. There are MANY thrus that don't have blister problems.
You are going to lose weight no matter what you do on the trail. That's assuming you're white blazing and not yellow blazing....don't freak out over what you're eating on the trail as much as how...
Really, a .25 ACP against a bear? I wouldn't even recommend that for defending against a person.
Sorry to be the one to say it, but there's alot of poor advice in this thread.
You are 90% ahead of most people in their preparation for the trail. Only after you've been on the trail for a week...
How could Kent, CT be a good hostel town in terms of profitability? Yes, it's close to the trail and yes, doesn't have any competition, but there's a reason why there isn't a hostel located in Kent....
Guys/Gals-
I started a group on facebook for the Minnesotan Thru Hikers. If you're from Minnesota, sign on up as I hope to find some people to hike with in MN.

Highly recommend you look into a ULA Circuit.
Lol. I have had Darn Tough socks that I thru hiked with and continue to use regularly. A sock that only lasts 10 days is a poor investment.
Go do it already! You can still southbound this year, although I wouldn't recommend that.
OFG,
My wife and I both quit our jobs last year and did the trail. We were 27 at the time. I don't regret it whatsoever. I still don't have a new job yet, but that's a different story for another...
I met these two lovebirds on the trail, wow were they in love!
My wife and I did half of the trail last year together and I finished the entire thing, while she went home. She did come back for...
Way too much time on your hands...
There were notes about this all last year.
