I just carry 2 butane lighters, the see through type with adjustable flame. Never had one fail. I usually hike with a freind who also carries a lighter or 2 also.
Saw a silnylon rainskirt online, 3 oz. $25, forgot who makes it. Others have suggested using a trashbag as a rainskirt. Cheap and effective. I have a pair of rain pants that I am considering hemming...
What are the Techwick pants made of? Do they have a water proof coating, or are they impregnated like silnylon. I have never seen waterproof short pants at Wmart. Just water resistant.
I like...
I am looking for feedback concerning an idea about raingear. I will overheat and sweat out in rain pants due to lack of ventilation. I have seen the rainskirt, I believe it is made from...
If you are looking for a swiss army type knife, look at the Wenger Ranger Series. Locking blade , can opener, bottle opener, screw driver combos. Not certain of the weight.

Of the 3, I would go with the Meyerco. If I had the money, I would go with this, even though it is overpriced.

The guardian is a self defense knife, nothing wrong with that, though it's utility is restricted by it's design. I can't count the number of times I have had dogs aggressively approach me on the...
I differ, a real survival knife is a full tanged, non-serrated, fixed blade. A real survival knife is a tool that you can be used to cut, carve, chop, pry and puncture. It needs to be strong enough...
I was at the old Racoon Shelter site last week. No shelter. Old Privy, picnic table and fire ring. A good flowing spring, ample tenting of hammocking area. Very active deer area. One deer was so...
cagoule - A cagoule, for those who don't know, is a waterproof jacket attached with a skirt at the bottom. campmor sells one for $40. Cagoules are completely unstylish and not very popular. However,...
I'm jealous.
I have had a pair of REI Sahara's for 8 years. They have held up through a lot of bushwacking. I know that they cost $55, but I think that after 8 years and still going, I definitely got my money's...
Does anyone here presently use/ or have used a SPE in a HH? I am thinking about switching to this from a SS since I usually have to use a 3/4 length pad in my hammock to keep warm anyway....
Alcohol, because of wieght. You can take only the fuel that you need and you know how much you have left. If you have a new canister you have to carry the entire weight even for an overnighter. You...
After re-reading your post, I cook exactly the way you do, no problems. If you boil water for coffee the cup will be to hot to immediately drink from. Either don't heat the water up so much, or set...
I use the 700. I can pack my stove, fuel, windscreen, lighter, and a cut down lexan spoon inside it. Never had any problems adding water to freezer bags or Mountain House meals.
here is some unbiased information on the 1st need and the katadyn

I would not make any decision on if I should treat water or with what to...

Blister prevention. I have an area on the back of my heel that seems to blister easily. So I just tape it before the hike, why wait for the blister?
