We saw a couple of large Fisher Cats near there last year, so that seems possible. Cute (but BIG) critters.

Yeah it's the same for me... I did this section of the trail with my dad in the 70's, and while the shelters are mostly in the same place, most of them have been updated/replaced.
We completed our hike on Sunday (Rte 15 to Rte 118...) I can happily report that water at the Roundtop pump was flowing strongly! Great tasting stuff.
Roundtop leanto, Corliss and Spruce Ledge...
Any one with recent info on whether or not the pump is flowing now? I've read that it has a habit of drying up at times.
Thanks! :)
I wouldn't want to do Mansfield with anything close to snow or ice on the rocks... Concur with what others are saying.
Ahhhh Heady Topper... :)
I agree with Praha4...I'm definitely a supporter of this project.
Fantastic! Much appreciated.
Some of the access roads have been washed out, limiting access. The floor has been repaired. We didn't stay there, but
it seems improved.

The Privy was large and clean, but it's hardly "handicapped accessible". Unless you remove the roof and lower the wheelchair in by chopper.
Stayed at Greenwall a couple of nights ago. The shelter was close to being full, so our party of 3 tented out back. Newish privy (although a non-composting variety) and the water was running strong...
No problems with Big Branch. Looks like a nice place. Stopped in for lunch on the way to Greenwall. Lots of Butterflies.

Gorgeous shelter, and packed with 12 people last Saturday night. Also 20 scouts at the tent site. Good times. :)

Stayed at this shelter this weekend. It's a sweet spot that should sleep 14-16 (although we 3 had it to ourselves.) The rumors of the mice are well founded. Our food and packs were hung, and they...
Three of us hiked most of LT section 3 on Columbus day weekend. We visited Stratton shelter before heading to the tenting area north of the lake.

Heading the opposite direction the following weekend. The leaves should definitely be in fine form.
What about the ever-popular tent "footprints"? Seems like added insurance when you're forced to pitch on a rocky patch.
+1 on the Photon. Put a bit of velcro on it, and another on my hat, and I use it as my primary.
The bear box is bolted to a concrete slab now, and yes - it's year round.
I got hit by dehydration in Vermont this past weekend. It was in the upper 80's and humid, and despite the fact that I pounded a couple liters of water, I definitely in retrospect should've been...

Heh, nothing like a 2.5 ft long section of pipe to make filling your filter bag easier. It's the little things in life that make it more enjoyable. :D
No, although it looked like one has been gnawing out the door of the Story Spring privy.
