Alabama, after/but then I realized I had been holding my map upside down for the first 450 miles of my trip.
Starting Wednesday, too. Trail journal is here:

And, of course, I've been cross-posting on my blog here on WB.
It's just my [uneducated] guess but I'm going to suggest that it could be due to the fact that many times duplex printing is more expensive than single-sided printing, even when two sheets/pages are...
Eh, I don't see it as a zero-sum game. Trekking poles are merely a tool -- sometimes you use them and sometimes you don't. I carry an alcohol stove, but I don't keep it lit the entire time I have it....
Yes, I have rethought the Snickers costume. Sure, it's breathable and brings out my hazel eyes in late afternoon sun, but being chased down the trail by hunger-ravaged hikers is going to cut into...
Thank you, Medicine Woman. I like the guy wire idea!
Actually, for whatever reason, I simply decided I wasn't going to be afraid of bears. The moment came when -- of all things -- I was driving...
As long as it's single-serve in the foil packet...
Perhaps medieval-style means there's shrubbery nearby, something nice but not too expensive.
Ni!
Awesome. My DIY first aid kit should cover most flesh wounds & scratches except the worst. I think I'm good to go!
Bwahahahahahahaha! "Sarcasm the Elf" -- you couldn't ask for a better trail name with which to answer this post.
As for pulling a sword out of a stone and/or being accused of being a witch, if...
The Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers' Companion 2012, page 219 (the New Hampshire chapter of the book) has this blurb in relation to the Ore Hill Shelter:
"...Privy (medieval-style)."
So,...
Thanks. Good stuff.
Soooooo, I shouldn't wear this giant Snickers bar costume that my friends got me as a going away gift? You know, my first thought was, this doesn't look water-repellent, and then I thought "Hmmmmmm....
I'm leaving Winston-Salem on the morning of the 28th and starting the Approach Trail on the morning of the 29th. If somethings falls through, PM me.
I agree. Knowing me as I do, I've planned a couple of things to see and do along the way. As they say, Hike Your Own Hike, and mine isn't necessarily about plodding along day after day. This is a...
I am so glad someone besides me has these sort of questions on their minds, and I'm even more glad that they actually ask them out loud.
Thanks, RWheeler, for putting the question out tnere, and...
24.6 lbs with food and water to Neels Gap, leaving 2/29.

Re: the bear video:
Awesome. I have 4 cats and one dog. I should take one cat plus a back up cat, and leave two at home in case bears follow me back here. After that, it's completely up to the dog...
1. Bears
2. Bears
3. Bears
4. Bear + other Bears
Very cool.
My journal:

And yes, I know my Whiteblaze ID doesn't match my trail name. Sigh - hindsight, 20/20, and all that jazz.

Instead of Tyvek for the tent footprint? Cool! I'll keep that in mind next time -- thanks!
Is there any chance you'll want a footprint or pad for your tent? Tyvek is lightweight and I've found it does indeed make a difference. Plus, it folds into pretty small package.
On my plan, I've got myself leaving Amicalola Falls S.P. on February 29th and getting to Neels Gap four days later, on March 3rd. I say, Whatever works for you -- Maine (or whatever your goal is)...
