i am primaraly a hammock camper , but do a fair amount of hiking above treeline in the sierras and the rockies, for these trips i use a big agnes air core pad that i have glued a 12" piece of velcro...

i agree with all of the above, my dog hikes a step behind me on my left, if she tries to go out front , i block her with me stick or leash.
she gets in following mode and i don't have to worry...

great combo, i use the mac cat standard with my blackbird, which provides ample coverage, but the deluxe gives more coverage at a very small weight penalty
i would add that places that have things like ,powdered mild or instant mashed potatoes, cous cous, etc should be taken advantage of when you find them

if you fly , obtaining the right fuel for your stove can be a pain, . i have been on trips where i had to share a stove with someone for 10 days, i didnt enjoy it

may be a tight fit , but the solong 6 by lightheart gear will fit 2 pads
mine is too big to share the hammock with , but over at hammockforums.net ther are lots of folks who share with their dogs
it only takes 1 unseasonably cold night to freeze to death, i wouldnt want to wind up in camp cold and wet after a long days hike and find the temps in the fifties and no insulation
