At 71 YO that extra lb may be the difference I need to make a summit. I'll just continue to use a ground cloth to keep my backside dry.

As far a parking goes there is a long term parking area at the trail head at Amicalola Falls. I've never had any problems while parked there.
I did the 72 miles in the GSMNP in when I was thirteen with the BSA. My Dad was the Scout Master so I would have to give him the credit for that and a lot of other things as well.
