I can see a general plan and approximate timeline. Too many things to see and do all along the trail. Take the time to enjoy the walk and see what develops. Plan your next mail drop but that's it....
I agree that many hikers use butter and oil for the calorie count. Everything within reason and moderation should be OK.
When nature calls, do what you have to do. Everybody gets used to it very quickly.

depends on your internal furnace. some stay toasty in a 20* bag and others freeze.
carry a pad. it will be well worth the small amount of weight for the comfort it provides.
Just get up and GO!

I usually hike solo and enjoy the solitude. It's nice to meet people on the trail but prefer to hike and camp at my own pace. I have the pleasure (and displeasure) of dealing with lots of people...

I usually plan on 2.25 miles per hour for a good average hike. I could go faster, but then I run into knee problems from over use. At that point the miles per hour really suffers and I enjoy the hike...
Their days are numbered on the trail. At the pace they are going, someone will catch up and enlighten them on their talents. I don't believe they will have what it takes.

I usually set up camp whenever I find a suitable spot. I wouldn't think of hogging a community campfire just to cook. I have a healthy appetite and usually don't skimp of food to save a few ounces....
