So just out of curiosity, how much gear does a winter pack weigh for you? Mine down here comes in for a 6 day trip at about 70 kilos or 35lbs.... That is good for me down to about 5 below...

+1 on this suggestion.... Personally I would get a tent like the LightHeart Duo and a bag like the Marmot Pinnacle bag for starters. That right there shaves the 8lbs on your current bag and shelter...
