I agree that it is not cool. I think it is cool to have a trail name. You certainly can introduce as alan. But a trail name can tell a little bit about you. IMO it shows your having a good time...

the outfitters at hot springs had a pc with internet
the library at kent
library at marion or maybe it was the other town and that juncture...

Same with WAWA gas stations, say they don't charge a fee, but i can't think of a wawa along the trail
