If we could have just gotten to one of the trailheads we would have went on regardless, we were prepared, but the roads to access the trails were closed. After walking the strip and watching to much...
Looks like an awesome trip! We traveled to Gatlinburg for the weekend just so we could do a day hike to Mt. LeConte on Saturday. All of the trail heads were closed due to downed trees from the storm...
Marmot Sawtooth. I'm not sure they still sell this one. I've had mine for a few years now. Any season, don't hit the trail without it, saved my life once in July!!
I've been to Len Foote. You have to hike 5 miles on the approach trail to get to it. It's my understanding that there's no vechicle access for the public/hikers. Nice folks there and they had...
My thinking is the same as yours, Drew33. I wasn't aware that folks didn't include it as part of the hike. It's like a staple of the trail, like a merit badge, I guess. I've hiked the approach trail...
Awesome!! One foot in front of the other ....... Good luck you all. Happy trails!
I've tried poles on two different occasions now. The first time was while hiking in Cheaha AL several years back. This last time, I thought they would save my knees on the downhill of Angels Landing...
I don't go in the woods without a BLP. I call it my insurance policy. They are expensive but what it your life worth?
^ that's a GREAT tent. Had mine for a couple of years now.
That looks like a really cool tent but I don't carry hiking poles, so I prefer that my tent have all the poles with it.
Backcountry is good to go. Never any issues.
BA tents are pretty delicate. I've had two. I feel like I kinda traded durability (not quality, they are good quality) for an ultra lightweight tent. I'm now using an MSR.
YES!! and Score bars :)
I lost three toenails after canyoneering in Zion last year. It grossed me out but they grew back pretty quick. After that trip (my feet were pretty well torn up) I went up a half size in boots.
There is always "one bad apple" that ruins it for many (in this case more than a few). I am afraid that this is why we will eventually start to see restriction on many of the places that we love to...
That's me! Excruciating pain on the downhills after some miles. Such pain that I had to bail out half way on a much anticipated section hike of the Benton MacKaye trial. My knees didn't look swollen...
Well, I'm here for my MRI today. I guess I'll know soon when I'll be able to hit the trail again. Hopefully it wot be too long!!!
I think that should be an excellent time of year to do the BMT. You will must likely need Srgt Rocks guide in the Big Frog / Cohutta, it can be tricky. The two times I've been on the trail were...
Yeah, I've had this issue for going on three yrs now. Doc said they'd do the MRI and it would be a minor surgery to scrape away some of the bone. He hopes to do both knees at one time but since one...
Believe it or not, we didn't have any trouble keeping on the trail. There was a time or two that we'd start questioning and one of us would run ahead to search for the next blaze. We were always on...
If I could figure out what I'm doing here I would post a trip report.

Wow. Our trip was the first week of July '13. Must have been a wet year!
Yes. Those snug packs are too hot for summertime. We were prepared for a low of 20 AND rain / wind. Imagine my surprise when the flakes started falling! There was around 6 in on on the far side of...
^^ this looks like a fun and cold trip! Our overnighter was fun but even with the snow it wasn't THAT cold!
