I don't have the funds for M.D. Anderson or I'd be there in a heartbeat. I'm working with my SSM Oncologist and the Siteman Cancer Center here in St Louis. I'm responding well so far to my...
Hey G, Mammoth Cave and Red River Gorge are both about half way between us. I have never backpacked Mammoth and it's been 25 years since I was last at Red River Gorge. Hopefully someone on here can...
Hey Lloyd,
Wish I could make this trip. Hoping we can get in a hike together before I move out West.
Spot 2 works great. 100% success with "ok" msgs.
I've hiked the trail quite a few times and prefer hiking Oconee to Table Rock.
You should be able to easily do 20 miles days on the JMT.
... LOL ... :p
... *yawn* ...
This is an isolated incident. No reason for people to get their panties in a wad and vow to never park at a trailhead again.
The best shoe is the ones that fit your feet the best. Go to a reputable store and have your feet/gait analyzed and try out all the shoes that are ideal for your foot type. I'm partial to New...
I don't eat a big breakfast on the trail - start off with a Powerbar or something and eat something at least every hour throughout the day and then a decent dinner to help recover during the night.

I never used AC in my car or home until I got married. The wifey won't tolerate not having the AC on. If it gets too cool in the house, I go out in the backyard and sleep in my hammock. I just can't...
I have used alcohol stoves on the JMT. I typically carry 1oz of alcohol per day. I only cook dinners and the 1oz is a little more than I need but don't mind having a buffer.
Like in the previous...
You can PM if you need any assistance and/or discuss any question about trail training.
Great pics!
You could take the train from Atlanta to Portland, ME ($205) and then use bus service to get to Medway (not sure of current prices - but its cheap), then use the AT Lodge Hiker Special ($70) for a...

No need to call first. Drive there and park.
No one will hear these guys passing through in the night. They'll be focused on the run and very little conversation. You'll never know they were out there.
Hmmm... it says its an organized event, so I'd wager they aren't compliant with current regulations. I'm certain they would need permission from the Forest Service or something along those lines. But...
Its never too hot to hike. Just have to adjust your mileage, pace, water intake, etc.
