Another vote for a poncho.
Oops... Missed that other post. Sounds legit :) Good list.
Depending on how early you leave, might want to bring more warm clothes. For me at least, a 45 degree bag is more like a 55...
On the AT, a poncho for sure! Although a LW rain jacket will be a nice wind shirt and will help keep you warmer in the early/late months.
Lightweight down jacket is key for being warm while waking up and getting things moving. For me, vests are better used for layering while moving in the cold and fleece is king there.
Seam taping is awesome. You're good!
Paradox packs are the best!!! Light weight and can support tons of weight. Plus, the hipbelts are replaceable.
Stableicers sells their replacement screws in packs that runners up here in Alaska screw into their shoes for grip on the ice...
Cup of tea, oatmeal with peanut butter and jelly, or granola. BOOM out the door and moving :)
LW rain jacket and rain kilt worked great for me. Switch to pants in Washington for warmth.
I'd say bring a warmer pad, but I'm only a "lightweight" hiker not an "ultralight" hiker :) weight savings are great and all, but good sleep is totally necessary to keep healthy on the trail.
Just apply for the permit and let them know where you're starting and finishing and all. As long as you're doing over 500 miles it will cover everything.
Only do a canister where required. I slept with my food the rest of the time. No problems.
Dunsmuir, CA where the trail crosses i5. Easy to get to and roughly half way
Turkey bags or silbylon stuff sacks.
Pm sent on shipping to AK
The storms can be pretty windy. I used a lightweight eVent shell and a long rain skirt. Would do the same again.
Transitions lenses on a titanium frame. No seperate sunglasses needed (for us hard of sight folk)
Buy a box of wine. Share with friends then blow up the wine bladder :) Super awesome lightweight pillow and you get wine!!!
If you're going to go bivy only, check out ones made with eVent. MLD and Borah Gear both make lightweight ones.
How much extra to ship to alaska?
Harmonica!!!
Chacos!!! Only need 1-2 pairs, feet will breathe, and they're wonderful for preventing/helping plantar fasciitis!
Away a in the box except for snacks. Also, I will put my trash in there too in a separate grocery bag.
Chaos! Good for at least the whole trail before a resole and they're great for helping/preventing plantar fasciitis!
