Yes, the packa works great as a shell layer and the HUGE "pit zips" offer plenty of ventilation. (from my ribs to elbows zip open or closed)

On the AT you should be fine without maps. They do provide interesting side trails, roads and towns. And possibly handy (with a compass and the skills to use them) in a very bad situation like hurt...

By Late Feb there should be plenty of nobo's on the trail if you are looking to have a partner (or team) to hike with.

45 Miles, Cosby knob shelter in GSNP to Hot Springs. It took 24 hrs I had torn some legiments in my ankle and my wife and I made the rush on Hot springs before the swelling got to bad (which it did)....

Recovery is coming along , I think we may go SOBO this year. I miss the trail so, hope everyone is on the trail and loving every step.

The REI Sub Kilo 20 is also a great, cheap, down bag. Gotta be slim build though, seems like it would be tight on a big fella.

Also liquid here, never could "acquire the taste" for tooth brushing with it though.

I stay out of shelters, feel like thats where you need em. So no plugs here.

I think we are in in good enough shape to thru hike, we both fixed gear bike instead of owning cars and are avid runners, just bad luck on icy roots in GSMNP. SNP seems like a good idea for this...

Honest truth, I just very slowly count in my head. That seems to put me right out. Keeps all the bear, ghost, aliens, and bigfoots out. Meds give me a groggy hangover deal in the morn.

For now we are just starting to gear up for next spring, get my ankle back at 110%. I would hate to put money and time into getting back at it this year and going a short distance only to re injure...

I keep my very short, just over waist high. Its all about personal comfort to me.
