@BirdBrain - I am somewhat familiar with the Carter Notch area...I did a day hike up to Mt Jackson to Pierce and back down Crawford trail (as I recall). With a heavy pack I wouldn't have made it....

I've found excellent clothing including lightweight pants with zip off legs at GoLite. In fact, I have their tent, backpack, warm water resistant pants...I'm a hiking commercial...

I would love to try a 3-4 day hike too and these details are very helpful!
