I would agree with most of the comments, but not to the degree of resentment expressed. It's a hard life trying to make a living as a Hostel. Budget hikers, thoughtless young idiots, etc tend to dull...
Thanks guys!! Sounds like a plan. I like buses. I like cheap. Based on past years, the shuttle would have been at least $200. The bus plus the overnight is much cheaper.
My hike this year will start near Bennington, Vermont and ends around Hanover, New Hampshire. I am driving up to Bennington.

From this and other sources, I have learned that the Camino Santiago is actually a network of trails, Not a single path. My question regards the "rush for a bed". If you don't rush and the "shelters"...
I bought some from a local oriental market. I couldn''t eat them. Way too fishy! Kind of like I imagine Cat Food to taste. I wonder if Walmart version are better. I love fresh boiled shrimp.
Winn Dixie has them here in Florida, but I had to buy a HUGE roll for $5 or $6. I'll never run out for sure. It's the sturdiness that is attractive.

I also use a trash compactor bar inside the pack.
For rain protection, I use a Poncho with string added to the back corners. This allows me to put the poncho over the back of the pack and tie it...

On return I had food and a bit of alcohol in the pack that I never gave a thought...
I collapsed my poles and strapped them to my backpack. The skycap in Orlando wrapped everything in a heavy plastic bag he provided and they were checked through from the arrival door. No problem....

Another Data Point:

I had a Boy Scout Flint and Steel kit as a youth. Came with a handful or straw. I must have spent a week over the years, trying to start a fire. Never came close.
Recently, I saw a frontier...
I think SGT ROCK said half as much water as the box is enough for freezer bag approach. (or maybe One of the cooks)
Anyway, that has worked for me.

I stayed there a couple of years ago. Joe is great. I think labeling the place a "Party site" is kind of harsh, but Joe can be an enabler, in a good way. He runs you to local places to shop or eat....
My experience goes back to the days of heinie pots. In order to carry it in my pack ,it required a tupperware carrier. Then it weighed nearly as much as my Aluminum cook pot. The can couldn't stand...
the very simplest alcohol stove is the bottom inch or so of a 3 OZ juice can, a wind screen made from two aluminum beer cans and a small tomato sauce can drilled full of holes for a pot stand.

If you stay clear of the shelters, you will be okay. Pot is common at the shelters. Beer also if you are near a crossroad. Hikers are pretty generous, so you'll have to be pretty strong at "just say...
I bought the cheapest watch walmart sold 8 years ago and used it til the batteries went dead. Bought another one this spring, exact same model still being sold and cost around $8
