Elbow macaroni, coconut jello, and sugar packets in a bottle. Drink when noodles soften.
I wore a pair of under armor tights for a large portion of my thru this year. They got warm a few times but I just slowed down a little or went ahead and sweat in them because they dried so quickly....
I'm looking for a site that may have a list of A.T. stats. Total number of mountains, above 2k, 3k, 4k etc... , rivers crossed, counties, state high points, and other interesting facts. Any one...
Verizon has the best coverage on the trail if you choose to update your blog while you are out.
If you are really worried about food you can have food drops put out for you. It is neither 100 miles nor wilderness. Be sure to stay at cloud pond. It took me and a buddy 10 days from BSP and we...
Does anyone have trail conditions south of pearisburg.
Anyone know what the conditions are like south of pearisburg. Getting stir crazy sitting in the hotel.
There was very little water when I came thru there a week or so ago but I'm sure that will not be a issue. There were at least 3 shelters without water.
The Captain saved our butts the other night. I am so grateful for his kindness.
They are really bad. Just came from the captains place and it took 2 days. Really a hard miserable hike.
I've been using one the whole time so far and its great. The rain fly is great for lunch if its raining and I can set up camp in a storm and nothing gets wet. Also its very easy to hang in shelters...

Bugs really haven't been that bad anywhere so far. I started 7-5 in Maine. Never had a problem with them back home in ga. Even when they were around they were tolerable.
Best trail magic I've seen so far is from the Beer Stein in Wind Gap,Pa. What a great guy.
Also all of the water that is stashed in places is a huge plus.
Bring a extra lighter. Get you some darn tough socks and loose the smart wools. Loose the filter and pick up some aqua mira or bleach. The straw hat is not gonna last. Bring a couple extra...
I've been using a small 8 oz water bottle and it has been lasting for over a week on the trail. Mainly cooking my dinner and a lunch occasionally. Some of the guys with canister stoves don't have...
We asked for rain and we dang sure got it.
I know this may be the wrong spot to post but am about to enter n.y. and have heard horror stories about the water sources. Anyone know how things are flowing. I'm in kent, ct and will be heading...
Just left mass and leaving ct today. Water hadn't been that much of an issue. There is a huge water cache near the mass-ct line. A lot of the springs are still flowing.
Gonna need a sleeping bag although a quilt would be best for your hammock. Also a sleeping pad will keep your underside warm if you don't want to spring for a Underquilt.
Appreciate all the advice. I ended up buying a OR helium II and really like it.
