Sorry to hear you are hanging it up. I turned 75 this year and bought all new equipment hoping I will still be able to complete the trail. At least get back to find out what is going to wear out on...
Been section hiking the trail since 2011. Have never had an issue with a thru hiker or day hiker. Golden rule always applies, treat other people like you would want to be treated. A little respect...
I have been doing some walking on an indoor track and some stationary bike. I already use treking poles. Hoping to get back on outdoor trail in a week or two , want to make sure my balance is good...
Mine was anterior also but doc said he had to cut some muscle. Did not order me physical therapy, said I was healthy and active and could do exercises at home. Thanks for the info, gives me hope.
Hi everyone
Been awhile since I posted here but thought I'd jump in and let everyone know I have not gone to the trail in the sky.
Things have been dicey but I have still been trying...
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Yep, I made it another year. lol
My definition of like new for hiking gear would be that if you put a new piece of gear beside it no one could tell the difference.
Everything is now sold. Thanks to everyone for helping an old guy out.
bump............
Ok, $175 for the Bivy, going once, twice........
Going thru my gear I ran across a clark jungle hammock that I bought some years ago. Pretty much had forgot about it. I am not sure of the model but think it was the lightest at the time. May have...
I bought the Bivy when I got the tarp. Thought it would be nice to keep the bugs off me. Got in it one time and was too hot. But I am a pretty big guy, 6'2" and 230 lbs. But if you are...
Now we need to convince Traffic Jam you can't sleep under a tarp without a bivy. LOL
You are right Teacher, I am lucky to still get around pretty well but the aches and pains sure tend to ruin the fun.
Just sent you a PM Traffic Jam
Disregard the PM I sent you asking if everything was satisfactory. Glad you like it.
BUMP
And backpack is sold.
Well I was hoping it would never happen but it has. My arthritis and age has pretty much caught up with me. Tried to do an extended hike in Pa. but the rocks and the heat were just too much for me....
Not going to get to your area this year but I sure enjoyed my time there. You are a great host and an inspiration. Wishing you only the best for years to come.
I am always happy to find a small gesture of kindness on the trail. I really don't consider that trail magic. I have found the magic to be when the trail looks out for you. While hiking in Pa. on a...
My thoughts exactly. Every ridge runner I have met has been extremely helpful and courteous. Leave no trace and follow any existing rules and you will not have a problem with them in my opinion.
If I had to do that many calculations I would never leave the house. lol
My last section hike I forgot to pack my down jacket. Was missing it every night. While others were up and about I was cuddled into my sleeping bag to keep warm.
Never wear it while...
Every year a couple thousand people start their hike with more gear than they need. All you have to do is look at how many pounds of gear mountain crossings ships back for hikers every year.

I took a day off in Marion and loved it. Took the bus from the ranger station into town. I think it was 50 cents. Also used the bus several times to get around town, they would pick you up and drop...
