approach trail- probably

Which is likely to have warmer temperatures and less snow in January, Smokey Mts. or VA north of Damascus to Harpers Ferry? Thanks.
My take on hiking without the crowds from my thru hikes would be to start no later than feb 20 for nobo and contend with winter for a month with the colder temps, ice and snow with possibility of a...
Franco@tarptent, had two of your tents ( double rainbow and contrail)and got rid of both because if anything touched the middle of the bathtub sidewall- it would roll flat. I know many happy people...
The advantage of the LightHeart tents over all the rest is the middle pillar on the side walls which prevents the bathtub wall from being flattened to the ground.

Finish date: January 23, 2015
Congratulations to all who have finished their sobo's and especially to you, Forrest for including all of us in your journey and starting this thread. As I take a zero in Damascus, I know of at least...
Your choice, waters shoes or get your trail shoes wet and walk them dry.
Set to start on 8/21, if all things work out- looks like I will be one of the last to start after behind delayed a month. Hope to meet and see a few of the sobo's toward's the end. Safe passage and...
The "FreeMan" that I met on the trail only partially jived with your description of him. He was not overly tall- 5 feet 10 inches or there about, age about 60 years old, his beard was long- but not...
Things are falling into place for my July 17 start date, booked into Katadhin Stream for the night of the 17th after coming down from the Mountain. Looking forward to crossing paths with others that...
Stayed there in 2013, and I can't say enough good things about the place- clean, comfortable and really nice people. Never had such a great breakfast before or since, top notch food and really nice...
Did a nobo in 2013 and am going out for a sobo in July 2014. Other than a directional shift, the changes will be
1) avoid the a few hostels that were the pits for one reason or another
2)...
For cash along the trail, my recommendation is to buy something and get cash back. So far, even if the place is charging a fee for cash back, it is cheaper than the ATM fees.
Used low cut gaiters for the entire trail because I do not like anything in my boots/ shoes or on my socks which then fall off into my footwear. Works well for me. There are some made with cloth...
Looking to hook up with someone going to Trail Days from New England area. Flexible on leave and return dates, with sharing of fuel and tolls. Thanks, Guiseppe
Use a Exped ul7- 27" wide and get a great sleep every night and many envious looks when I use a shelter.
Take a look at the Lightheart Solong6 or Duo as well.
