In answer to your original question, that gray trail was a part of the original FT, believe it or not, at one time that was the Southern Terminus. Now, the FT actually follows Stage Coach Trail to...
Don, I've created quite a few POI packages for Garmin gps's, when I get home from work tonight, I'll find out the difference between Garmin's and Tomtom's formats and hopefully put something together...
Generally, the only way to truly "remove" tannins is by evaporation and condensation. That being said, as long as you run the water through a .1 micron filter, it will be perfectly safe to drink. ...
It boils down to this, at backcountry campsites you can use a hammock. At shelter sites you cannot use a hammock unless the shelter is full, and of course you have a reservation. But even if the...
I get the GPS data from the ATC's GIS page here: http://www.appalachiantrail.org/about-the-trail/mapping-gis-data That way it shows the actual trail and not connectors or older reroutes. The only...
The 2 inch rule is limited to Florida State Parks. National Parks within FL have been notified that Florida rules do not apply in National Forests. Hopefully you won't run into that again.
I have a heck of a time connecting the various tracks on the ATC's site everytime there's a reroute, but its a labor of love :) check out http://www.lilricky.com and download the .gpx for the AT. I...
Thanks bemental, that must be in the far north Florida Trail! :)
Where did you read that you had to camp in designated areas????
I have N35.03953° W83.55266° for Deep Gap, and N34.88246° W83.64606° for Deep Gap shelter.

Looks like he hasn't logged into the site in a week. Was interested in the EE quilt as well, but got the same inbox problem. Spidey, the quilt is yours since you posted first, if he decides to come...
Ok, got the main FT GPS track updated, still have to update the track with the separate loops, but the main track is ready to be downloaded.
Correction to the above post, don't pay $20 for GPX2IMG, use IMGfromGPX instead : http://www.javawa.nl/imgfromgpx_en.html
Yeah, POI or making them Geocaches are how I get around the 1000 waypoint limit. If you have issues loading the entire track of the Colorado trail you can convert the track(s) to a .img file using...
I just got the main track from the FTA, although its broken down into several small pieces. I'm putting the pieces together and will be updating the Unofficial FT GPS page very soon with the newer...
Since we are talking about the quality and amount of information in these publications, it might be wise to bring up Guthook's AT Guide as well. I know its only on devices and not paper-bound, but I...
As am I, for at least the next 3 weeks....
Ah! Just saw that Guthook helped with Sandra and John's app. Very cool.
I've been using Sandra Friend's Florida Trail App. I wasn't aware that Guthook had a Florida Trail app.....
Not sure about the water levels around the Little-Big Econ, but I do know there is a parking area for the trail on Powerline Road at coordinates: N28.50394° W80.96357° There's room there for about...
Yep, I bought some from Thinkgeek that were on clearance. They work great, one I have used and recharged several dozen times. Still gets just as hot as the first time.
Also, a program for your PC/Mac from Garmin called Basecamp is an excellent way of planning/printing/manipulating tracks and maps. Also it works natively with the maps at gpsfiledepot.com.
I know its a bit out there, but this January at the 5th Annual Florida Hang, we usually do a couple of hikes, one of which is the Alexander Springs to Farles hike.
