I have a Six Moon Design Skyscape Scout that is a great 1 man tent. The good thing you will not go wrong with any of these companies.
Weather forcast for Gatlingburg this weekend- Saturday 69 high/ 45 low Sunday 61 high, 40 low. It will be cooler up at Newfound Gap but there should be some melting over the next few das.
I'm 5'11" and have plenty of room with a regular Big Agnes inflatable pad. Also have room for a Golite Jam 50 in the tent. I keep my boots in the vestibule. It would be nice to have a zipper opposite...
I also have the Scout. It is a great tent that is easy to setup and use. I use my hiking poles and it only takes a couple of minutes to set up. I replaced my cross pole with the Pex pipe...
I have a Kelty Coyote 4750 that I use for a winter pack when carrying all the extra weight that comes with winter camping. It is very comfortable and holds a big load. I use a Golite Jam 50 for 3...
I agree with Whack-a Mole. Hike from Carvers Gap to Grassy Ridge. The sunsets and sunrises are fantastic and it is usually nice and quiet. I have overnighted up there at least a dozen times and all...
Old growth forest on the hike to Ramsey Cascades in the Smokies. Not on the AT but some huge trees along the way.
I just celebrated my 50th birthday by going the day before my birthday and hiking alone up Grandfather Mountain in North Carolina. As I was sitting on a cliff and watching sunset I thought to myself...
Camping on Hump Mountain with my Brother that I hadn't seen in 2 years and my son that had just returned from Iraq. We had a drink at sunset in rememberence on Dad and talked about old times.
The Force was strong in this one.
26 degrees in Bristol, TN last night. I'm sure it was much colder across Roan Mountain and on the trail north. Better to be safe than sorry.
Roan Highlands Tennessee/North Carolina
I second the SMD Skyscape Scout. It is a great value for the price. A little more than you was looking to spend but well worth it.
Nothing but great customer service from Ron and Six Moon Designs. They have wonderful products and I have really enjoyed my Skyscape Scout.
I have the Cosmic and at 30 degrees have to unzip to vent. I sleep warm but it is a great bag for the price.
I've used mine 5-6 nights and love it. It is lightweight and inexpensive and meets my needs. I got it at the pre-release price so for $90 feel it was a good buy.
I got mine on Thursday. Got September and October issues together.
I use the Spot 2. Do I need it? Probably not. Does it make my wife feel better when I hike alone. Yes. I will continue to use it because of it gives her peace of mind.
Felt it in Johnson City,TN. There was a vibration in the floor for about 15 seconds.
I did Carvers Gap to 19E last Monday-Tuesday and there was good water below Grassey Ridge and at Bradley gap. Didn't check at Overmountain Shelter and Doll Flats had just a trickle out of the pipe...
10-K, you was typing while I was.
On the 19E end leave your car at Mountain Harbor B&B. They are very reasonable and will also do shuttles. They are only about 1/2 mile or less from the 19E trailhead.
Parked at Mountain Harbor last Monday and Terry shuttled us up to Carver's Gap. It worked out great and I knew my car was going to be safe when I got back to it. Give Terry and Mary a call and they...
North from Carvers Gap.
