Would he consider a restart if he can't get back on the trail in the next few days?
Is it possible for him to make up the lost time at this point?
I guess we'll find out in the next few days.
Let's say he gets started up again around 2:00, at his current pace of slightly under 3 mph we're looking at 11 pm...of course that doesn't take into consideration darkness, terrain, and fatigue.
Has he made it down to Crawford Notch yet? Hope to get a blog update from whereskarl at some point today.
One thing I think would be cool from the whereskarl site would be a quick video diary...
Wow is he really going for 50 miles tomorrow? The 26 miles of the Presidentials and then the Franconia range in one day. Excuse me if this sounds like a naive question but has anyone EVER done that...
Andy Thompson was at Poduck Rd. in VT, mile 450.4 after 12 days.
If Karl goes with the plan that LW thinks, he'll be over 50 miles back.
What would you guys say the most difficult day for Karl (30-40 mile stretch) on the trail is? Will it be the stretch between Grafton Notch and Gorham? The Kinsmans were no picnic either.
For...
If he's at South Arm Road at noon, it looks like Grafton Notch, unless he can do 34 more miles to the Carlo Col side trail which would seem really unlikely. Still no blog update today.
He should...
Does anyone have an idea where I can find Andy Thompson's 2005 day by day mileage? Did a google search and saw his 98 and 01 attempts but not 05.
Warren, Lone Wolf, or anyone else- if you could...
So...If he ends at Maine 17 today...would he do something like this:
Day 7: ME 17 to Grafton Notch
Day 8: Grafton Notch to Gorham
Any insight?
That would put him WAY behind his...
I'm definitely rooting for Karl to get it done. I wonder if he knows what the Mahoosucs have in store for him though? Can't wait to see their reaction when he pulls into Gorham. I think that he...
Did that ever get covered up? I couldn't believe it when I saw that last year. Poor Holly Stout.
Bumping this thread up.
Iceman- Did you end up having the surgery? If so, are you on track for your start on the AT?
I had the hallux limitus surgery last week. What they did was shorten...
Icemanboston,
This topic is pretty much up my alley. I thru-hiked this past year with the pain of hallux limitus, simaler if not the same thing as you have. I think that you are definitely...
Oooops. I made a mistake. I just consulted the good ole Wingfoot book...I mixed up Lost Pond Shelter and Little Rock Pond Shelter. They are about 6 miles apart....I never even stopped in to see...
I have heard of tons of problems with the locals in that area of Vermont. When I was finishing up my thru-hike, I had to go back to do this section of VT and stayed at Lost Pond Shelter. It was...
Smile-
My guess is that is caused by either the footbed of your boots or sneakers being too tight or walking on the outside of your foot...I would say that custom orthotics from a podiatrist...
Thanks for the replies...I'm starting to feel better after a week off from hiking/working out at the gym. I just have a general soreness from being on my feet all day at work. The good thing is no...
Thanks for the reply. I have a pair of custom orthotics that are molded to my flat feet ($350)....However, I was not wearing these during my training as I chose to go with a brand called...
Hello all,
I searched the threads and did not find any information on inflammation/irritation of the sesamoid bones of the big toe joint (metatarsal head).
A long story short: During my...
