Blue Ridge Mountain Sports for me.
I decided to try that last summer, and I don't know why I keep trying spam over and over again. I just can't it eat. Tastes like puke.
Unbelievable. This country is ridiculous.
Rough estimate based on my last hike, which was mostly flat ground lol.
Hmm. Maybe my tastebuds are defective :P.
I don't know if I could do it with that small amount of food every day. You burn roughly 2000 calories for 6 hours of backpacking +/- depending on how large the elevation changes are. On a typical 4...
Boots all the way. I've taken enough falls to know that I'd roll my ankle in anything else. I've got an old pair of High Tec hikers right now that are killing my arches, I'm hoping to pick up a nice...
I do not. I change into camp clothes when I get off the trail, let my trail clothes dry, then stuff them into a stuff sack at night right before I climb into bed and use that as a pillow.
I have had a snake up my shorts, I find them to be fascinating creatures, so I'm not scared of them. Spiders I just can't deal with. It's an irrational, unfounded fear, but it's a fear none the less....
Honestly, for a weekend trip, I can see it being done. You don't need that much food for a weekender, but I'm with you, I love to pig out after a long day on the trail, whether I'm out for a day or a...
Damn, and I thought I was satisfied with myself for getting down from a 60 to a 40 pack :/.
What type did you use? I would assume the unscented one would taste like soap, but the peppermint one isn't bad at all. When I'm on the trail I use toothpaste, but if I'm paddling Dr. Bronner's...
Hahaha, snakes wouldn't make me run, but put a spider in my clothes and I'll finish a 5 day trip in a day :D.
I'm surprised at how many people use alcohol. I mean, I wouldn't dream of using anything other than my soda can stove, but I haven't seen many people on the AT with them aside from people I know and...
My hiking buddy still uses a Kelty external he bought for boy scout trips 8 or so years ago. He packs it full to 40 pounds and still flies past me :P.
I would think that the edges would be able to absorb water if not sealed somehow...
I've done most of PA, and I've found the northern half to be the worst I've ever hiked in terms of rocks. Not a solid piece of dirt for miles, just rocks, rocks, and more rocks. That's part of the...
If you sew another piece of webbing on, make sure you use nylon thread. Cotton will tear in probably one use. Nylon thread is great.
That does make a bit more sense I guess.
My camera and a book :).
Photography is a hobby of mine, so I try to go as light as possible, that way carrying my 6 or so pounds of camera gear isn't so bad :/.
I really love MSR products, I had really high hopes for this filter. This is unfortunate.
I'm happy with my Miox right now, but I'd love to pick up a Steripen just to try it out.
My name is JuiceBox, and I have a problem...
How heavy are most gravity filters? I don't have any experience with any of them, but they seem like a good idea, makes things easy around camp, but I'm not sure I'd want to carry one.
I'm thinking out loud here, no need to be condescending.
