Thanks for posting the pics, those sections don't get used as much as some of the others.
You didn't say if you overnighted, if not that is aggressive day hiking (20.5 miles)
I have parked before at the C-store one half mile south on 431.
It is also a good place to re-supply.
Thanks for all the work you did there.
That area gets neglected most of the time as trail maintainers go through on the Pinhoti.
The before and after pics detail the amount of work involved, it...

Nice report and great pics!
There are 3 areas where the trail has been re-routed to eliminate steep climbs

Baxterbear,
Typically you have more negative replies than positive so I will counter with this thought

If you build it, they will come.

This is the most likely place I know of that could fit what you are interested in.
It even had a campground at one time.
The last time I was by there the house was empty.
The whole place could use...
It is in the GSMNP,
I have hung in shelters in the GSMNP when there were only 2 other hikers
and no one complained.
As a matter of courtesy to other hikers on the Pinhoti, officially, I don't...
Nice photos, thanks for posting.
That is my favorite Pinhoti shelter as well,
and your trail food looks much better than my menu.
[QUOTE=JBEN;1924389]Gubbool,
Yes, this a great resource. I've poured a lot of prep time over it as I will be thru-hiking the entire Alabama Pinhoti trail Jan 31-Feb 6 SOBO.
In Jan. 2013 I hiked...
All the wal-marts I have been to have the Tyson pouches for $2.38.
There are more questions than answers about Flagg Mtn.
This was addressed in an older thread and will probably come up again.

I hiked the Skyway trail last week and it is fairly clear of obstructions and the seasonal
water sources are flowing.
Pretty serious rumor that property has been purchased for Pinhoti woods trail between Weogufka and SR 21
leaving only 9.8 miles of road walk for the Alabama Section once all the approvals have been...
I thought about that but then it just might be a good find for a hungry hiker.
It looks like they tried to burn the emptys which gets a lot of criticism, but
worse would be to leave emptys with...
Election day, shadowsue and I elected to go hiking.
Seemed the best choice; vote for the incumbent crooks
or vote for new crooks.
We started at High Falls just after daybreak, the water flow...
The first time I went through it seemed like a good place for a vampire smorgasbord.
Over the last 5 years I rate this section as the MOST improved.
Three of us hiked Rebecca SOBO today and the weather was perfect.
Leaf color is starting to brighten up but in some of the low areas everything is still spring green.
The overall trail condition...
Six of us, all family finally worked it out to be able to meet at the same time to hike from Beech Gap to Tapoco.
It was a 2 day hike with an early finish on Mon. this past week-end.

My only bear encounter was on the Hannah Mtn. Trail in the Smokies and it was comical.
It ran away from us to a big pine tree to hide and then poked It's head around to watch us go by.
With that...
Good advice, low and tight is the key.
I haven't had any problems staying dry.
Depending on what time you get started, Heaven or a campsite at the bottom of the stairway that is close to water
would be minimum if you want to finish in 2 1/2 days comfortably. I would shoot for...
If you hike as planned you will avoid the 2 hardest climbs (stairway to Heaven and the climb on the Skyway to connect to the pinhoti)
The other hard climb will be on the Chinnabee up to the Pinhoti...
I was able to get the BMT map from gubbool's post on the Pinhoti forum but not on the BMT forum.
