Had lyme's, not a huge deal if caught early, which it sounds like you have. Even if your test comes back negative, doesn't mean you don't have it, sometimes it can take 4-5 weeks to show up on a...
Unfortunately I can't really join you, but if when you make it to the Roanoke or Blacksburg area and need a shuttle or a warm bed for the night, let me know.
I know the statistics of likely hood of finishing the trail, but that really sucks that the brothers didn't get to finish together.
Hmm...strange, it's pretty much just add boiling water...that's why it works great in the hamburger helper.
That's another good point...we're normally only on our sections during the day in good weather. :)
In general I'd say that blazing needs to be left to the trail overseer...for a multitude of reasons, but mainly in case they know something about the future of the trail that you don't. If you feel...
TVP (textured veggie protein) is also a great addition to them! Good way to get protein with almost no additional weight.
Hamburger helper also works pretty good with this method...you can add the...
Yes they do! So make sure you check sources in advance so you know where to get water. And anytime you pass water fill up! Even if you don't really have too.
lol, no!! I was 12! lol, was totally legal! :)
That's pretty awesome...thanks for posting!
It'll definitely be on the al-dente side...I've done it many times, especially for long trips...I like not having to clean up the mess...it's not as good as cooking it in a pot, but far from bad as...
There are plenty of hikers on the trail, in all section, during July and August, maybe not through hikers but lots of other section hikers. I usually do a week during the summer (plus weekends) and...
Just wanted to let everyone know if you need a shuttle this summer to let me know! Pretty much anywhere from the southern VA line to SNP is fine. I'll be section hiking so I'll just adjust my hike to...
That's awesome! Can't wait to see the completed product!
Just read your post...think you made a good decision changing the focus.
So, I'm finally getting around to reading Ed Garvey's Appalachian Hiker: Adventure of a Lifetime. And there's a recipe in their for Citadel Spread. As a vegetarian, and not a huge peanut butter fan...
Not on a thru hike but I meet my now husband 15 years ago on a hike. His father forced him to lead a girl scout hike, and well, of course you shouldn't throw a 13 year old boy into a girl scout camp...
If anyone else tries to find this book, Better World Books has it for $4.74. That includes shipping and all profits go to benefit literacy programs.
I've hiked for several years in Teva sandals. Love them, wouldn't trade them for anything. (Granted my husband hates the fit of Tevas and uses Keen's instead).
Look forward to your trip report! It's a great area...have always enjoyed hiking there.
Last time I was in that area I saw people walking the trail in flip flops...It's not a bad section at all. They're nuts...or not hikers...which i guess makes them nuts.
Like the rest, safety pins. Light weight and cheap. I just leave them attached to my pack so I always have them.
Only out west. Never in the east. In NC you'll be fine by just hanging your food.
Its a day hike, who cares how much you carry...besides, I just consider it good conditioning for backpacking.
