i know is this is a bit late, figured id throw out my 2 cents however. hiking nobo on the AT from DWG you will hit a few spots for water. ie sunfish pond, and some random streams. it isnt very wet up...

For what its worth, i have been using the same set of super makilu's for 7 years now. Never had a problem. I couldnt imagine hiking without them, however some folks just dont. Its subjective.

Ear plugs are my best friend while sleeping along in the woods. I also pack some advil pm if i need a little help dozing off.
