my uncle caught a big bass, but after that all we caught was bluegill and small walleye (atleast i think thats what it was).
It was a good long section and it really had that deep woods feel.
what i've heard is the southern first 40 miles are really wet, what i would do is not skip that section but instead do it last, making for a challenging and rewarding end to your hike

before i climbed mt st helens everyone told us we needed ice axes, we didnt bring any. they would have helped my grandpa but they werent needed. i dont know about the sierras buy i would say no.

Give this guy a break after 50 days im sure many of you would have called it quits too. But it really shows that survival is all about your mentality.
