Saw Creepster, Genius, Peeps in CT.
While I'm still rooting for him, I think it's impossible to achieve 58+ mpd for 27 days. And to make it worse, he is not feeling 100% either. Perhaps he should update the website with a dose of...
I think I will cross Karl in CT. Thankfully I'll be going NOBO and won't be shamed by the speed differential.
I'll be doing a 4-5 day NOBO CT section hike starting Aug 20th from the NY-22 intersection (AT station). Anyone is welcome to join in. I do 10-15 miles/day and do frequent (=slow) photo stops.
While it might qualify as ultralight food, the effect would be negated by the microscope needed to locate it in my pack. I'll pass.:p
Thanks for the confirmation.
It's about 18-20" long and had a yellow stripe along the back as seen in the photo. It actually stepped in between my feet as I was hiking. I didn't notice it until my hiking buddy let out a shout....
Thanks for the identificiation.
The snake is very much alive and healthy. And while I did pet it, it was a fleeting moment since it couldn't see me with it's head under the rock.
I...
Please help me identify this snake. It's about 6 ft long and black without any markings.
It startled my buddy as it was right along the trail edge in NY Section 6. We photographed it and then it...
The AT is a thin strip of federal and state lands in this area from east shore of the Hudson to the CT border. That includes the following shelters: RPH, Morgan Stewart, Telephone Pioneers. The above...
I have had to setup camp in darkness in a thunderstorm a few times. I did it by setting up the fly first and then working under it to set up the tent. Another time it was a SMD Lunar Solo and it was...

A friend saw this snake on the trail. Here's her description of it:
" It must have been about 3ft long max (probably shorter).
It have kind of arrow kind of head.
It had just molted.
Narrow...
I'd go for walk and then talk. But then he has already done that on other trails, hasn't he?
Less than 6 1/2 lbs.
The bivy is windproof and waterproof. The liner is not. That should answer it.
I hope you have a regular job because this ain't gonna fly!
So if a shelter is full, am I expected to keep on hiking to the next shelter? Not!
I'm pitching my tent using all the principles of "Leave No Trace" as I can in a clearing close to the...
I'd just take her tent camping. I did that with my 4-year old son and <2-year old daughter and they loved it. Besides they are so tired at the end of a long day, that where they sleep doesn't really...
I use my poles for hiking, skiing, breaking trail in winter and tent setup. It's still good after 2 years.
It doesn't have to be tight just form fitting like base layer long underwear. It's not at all constricting while keeping your assets safe. :sun
I wasn't trying to be cheeky calling your GF 'wife'. Just an honest mistake.
Talk about changes in your life! I wish your wife the best.
2008 is too far given that 2007 has barely started. There could be many more changes in your life by then. For now, I'm giving up on...
The older I get the more I appreciate UL technology.
Lighter should not be associated with a bad margin of safety. e.g. A $235 WM Highlite 35-degree sleeping bag weighs 1 lb and has the same...
So he's hiking naked, has room for him and his buddy in the tent and is not planning to have kids on the trail. It's painting quite a picture!
BTW, I like the tent concept but not the...
