Thanks. I've emailed everyone on the FHT page that lists potential shuttlers. Hope I can find someone!
Anyone interested in shuttling me and my buddy from Laurel Valley Rd & SC 178 to Table Rock SP on the morning of Sat, Nov 20? I've also emailed the Foothills Trail Conference and commercial...
I hiked the DRT last year at this time. Water was abundant in the springs. At Mulky Gap, go down the dirt road past the hunting blind, and you will find sparkling springs.
I had the same issue until I hit upon using a cheap blue foam pad with a Pacific Outdoors blow up mat (like the current Ether series, see http://www.pacoutdoor.com/splash_pdfs/sleeping_pads09.pdf).. ...
Hi Friends! The Benton MacKaye Trail Association has posted its list of group dayhikes at www.bmta.org. This year we have a variety of locations- about 2/3 of the group hikes are on the BMT. We...
It is possible my memory of the date is wrong. I just glanced at it.
No big blowdowns other than the tangle on Gregory.
What's the story with the pink landscape tape and cryptic blazes on...
DWM, I posted some pics from my DRT hike. you might like the one of the Sign Digesting Tree and the one of the Sign-Spitting Tree. Also have pics of the hunting blind. It is at the end of the...
The Benton MacKaye Trail Association is having monthly day hikes in 2010. See bmta.org. They will be in GA, TN, NC, mostly but not all on the BMT. I'm leading the one in Sept. See www.bmta.org.
When I tried on my Ariel 65 (medium pack with small hipbelt), it fit like perfect shoes would fit. It is very stable on difficult grades. Is it wrong to love a pack?
If you wait for all conditions to be right, you'll be waiting a long time. As with the doctoral program, it's probably best not to ask whether you are biting off more than you can chew. Just chomp...
Back from DRT, and lived to tell!
Tues 11/24/09: Stopped at Walasa-Yi to weigh pack: 34 lbs. To Vogel. Checked in with ranger for trail updates; nothing out of ordinary. Stayed in walk-in...
I think my cat Nathan could go hiking with me. He has the right personality-- but the wrong weight, considering that I would have to carry him a lot so he could keep up with his naps and be ready...
great vid! thx!
The Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area boasts the Maude's Crack, No Business, Shot Off Cliff, Hippy Cave, Parch Corn, and Dump Trails.
BTW, if you didn't already know, place names...
I just got a bra at Target that is a lot like the Patagonia capilene mesh bra (http://www.rei.com/product/733652). Comfy, microfiber, no uniboob, $17.
Point taken, Mags. BTW, good things were said of you at the BMTA annual meeting in Coker Creek TN last weekend.
Is it just me, or are names of trails in the southern Appalachians more colorful than the names of trails in the west?
Right on, Rain Man. I spend a week at BSF every June-- it is a best-kept secret in the south!
Great ideas all! Keep it coming. I'm getting lost in daydreaming about being out there in the cold, wet, and wind. Perfect!
Any ideas about Florida Trail?
...where in the Southeast would you go backpacking? :-?
Am planning to hike the "Georgia Loop" (Duncan Ridge Trail & AT between Slaughter Gap & Three Forks) at Thanksgiving. I've read some of the very helpful previous posts. Any new conditions to...
Tim Homan's guide is out of date in several places. When he wrote it, the BMT was incomplete in many places. By now, the trail is complete and has been rerouted in some spots, most notably at...
Section 8 was recently re-blazed. This is one of the most remote parts of the BMT.
We will not be able to keep a cooler in vehicles. We can keep things a day or 2 in the creek, as long as it gets thorgoughly heated afterwards & as long as the raccoons don't steal it. Kinda...
This is EXACTLY the info I need. keep the suggestions coming!
