Welcome Binjali.....lots of scouts and former Philmont hikers thru-ing every year!!!
Have not read all posts but the spreadsheet shows Lodging only 5 nights for the entire thruhike. That is not typical for 99% of the thruhikers I have met, so please don't plan your hike with that...
As a resident of a trail town I can tell you that your attitude goes a long way in how hikers are viewed.

Have not visited all hostels along the AT but really appreciated how clean and orgainized Green Mountain House in Vermont and White Mountain Lodge in Gorham were.
Some of the "famous" hostels on...
Is Mary still making that killer breakfast???
I hiked the AT in 1998 and now trying to piece together sections to eventually complete another hike from GA to ME.
I asked this question last year before a long section hike and got several great...

Does anyone know who was voted in as leaders of ALDHA at this years meeting?
Sad to read about the Pearisburg hostel closing. Any other church sponsored hostels on the verge of closing??
I worry about the one in Delaware Water Gap. When Pastor Karen retired you never know...
After reading the Tips and Donation thread I now know why so many hostels have closed.
Did I miss Red-Dog's report back about The Family???
The word "donation' is used so that a hostel is not considered a business and subject to so many regulations, fees, taxes. It may sound shady, but otherwise most every hostel on the AT would have to...
