I was thinking of setting up a bit of trail magic in the Cumberland Valley (PA) next week. Does anyone know if what I'm sure is a slightly deflated bubble is near this area yet? Hopefully I'm not too...
I'll reconsider my plans it it's anywhere near 85. I sweat very easily and quite a bit when it's hot. It's just not enjoyable to me at that point.
I thought this because I live close to the trail in the trail town. It seems most places in the cumberland valley are close to towns and because of this, I'd have to travel a distance to get to a...
I am fortunate that I live very close to the AT in PA, near Boiling Springs. I had the thought that I'd like to do something nice for those that will be coming through soon to help lift spirits and...
What is the date that you need the shuttle?

Why not just use the microwaveable Mac n Cheese? If space is an issue, just empty the contents into a freezer bag before the trip, then just add boiling water, just as if it was still in the...
After typing the above post I realised I probably should have started a new topic. I know there will be many that read this from the beginning and have no clue what's going on until they get to the...
I'm back! I've been inactive in both hiking and the forum for a couple of years but I'm getting the bug again, especially now that I live mere miles from the AT. I had been laid off from work and...
Thanks for the input guys. I was also eyeing the new Osprey Atmos 50, but that is a much heavier pack and I was trying to reduce weight and as far as price, the ULA is very comparable if not less...
It's not for a through hike. Right now it would be for trips a week or less. Thinking of section hiking from boiling Springs to Harpers Ferry in the fall. Planning on going with a UL tent which I...
Which one would YOU buy and why? I understand there is a weight difference, but also a difference in the frame/support. I'd like to get some opinions before I bite the bullet and buy one of these.
I live in the area and can provide shuttle service for a donation if it fits into my work schedule. Do you have a specific date yet? I'm not an official AT shuttle person, but plan to be in the...
Does anyone have experience with the newer ergonomic trekking poles? Are they comfortable? Awkward? I was eying the Trail Ergo Cork by Black Diamond.
Wow, that is close. Hello neighbour!
Next weekend I was able to get off from work, so id' like to take a hike either in the Grayson Highlands or SNP. It's a four hour drive to either place, so the first day would have to be just a half...
It's nice that the article actually tells which other brands.
Any suggestions for good themals? I have an old pair from wal mart or Target; Hanes, I think. I also have a pair of silk bottoms. I was planning on bringing those.
I just purchased an enlightened equipment 30 degree quilt. I'm hoping to do a 3 day hike in SNP in two weeks, but I have concerns with the quilt keeping me warm enough with the cool weather we've...
I have one of these pots as well, but I haven't had a chance to use it yet. You do mean Oli Camp, though, right?
Before even using it I've noticed the top might be an issue. I'd like to know what...
Planning on a 3 day hike the first weekend in October. Not sure where I'm going yet. Looking forward to trying out some new gear.
I've wondered the same thing and look forward to everyone's responses.
NCSU has backpacking as a PE class, as well as many other things you wouldn't really expect to get credit for. For my first BS degree, my PE classes were bowling and horseback riding.
Well, that makes a lot of sense and explains the straps. I feel like an idiot, but at least now I know how to use it. :) Thanks!
